Changing the Connection for a Virtual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
You can change the connection for a virtual
CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. For example, you
can associate a different physical drive with the virtual drive, or choose to
use an ISO image instead of a physical drive connection.
To change the connection for a virtual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
drive:
- Select File > Open and open the virtual machine configuration file
(.cfg) you want to modify.
- Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the VMware GSX Server
console window.
- Click the + sign next to IDE Drives or SCSI Devices.
- Select a device node where you want to create a virtual CD-ROM.
- On the far right, make a different selection under
Device Type:
- CD-ROM.
Select this option
if you want the guest operating system in the virtual machine to access the
physical CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive on the host machine.
Then choose the drive
letter that should correspond to the virtual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.
- CD-ROM Image.
Select this option if you want the virtual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to connect
to an image file stored on the host file system. Then
click Browse to locate
the image file to which this virtual CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive should be connected.
- CD-ROM (raw access). Select this option to allow more
advanced features of DVD drives beyond simple read operations from data and audio CDs.
For example, selecting this option enables read operations for DVD disks (in DVD drives).
This feature is experimental at this time.
- Click OK.
