Sound must be working on your host system or else it cannot work in the guest operating system.
Also, Windows XP and Windows .NET Server do not automatically detect and install drivers for ISA sound cards, such as the Creative Sound Blaster emulated in a virtual machine. Other operating systems automatically detect the sound device.
