Changing the Connection for Sound from a Virtual Machine

You can change the physical sound adapter that is used to enable sound in a virtual machine.

To change the physical sound adapter that is used in a virtual machine:

1. Select File > Open and open the virtual machine configuration file (.cfg) you want to modify.
2. Select Settings > Configuration Editor from the console.
3. Select the virtual Sound Adapter.
4. On the far right, enter the path to the new sound device you want to enable for this virtual machine in the Device field.
5. Click OK.

Note:

Sound must be working on your host system or else it cannot work in the guest operating system.

Also, Windows XP and Windows .NET Server do not automatically detect and install drivers for ISA sound cards, such as the Creative Sound Blaster emulated in a virtual machine. Other operating systems automatically detect the sound device.
