How VMware GSX Server Networking Appears on the Host Machine
Networking
support in virtual machines is done on the host machine through a virtual switch
or Ethernet adapter that implements
several devices:
- VMnet0 Used for bridged networking.
- VMnet1 Used for host-only networking.
- VMnet2 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet3 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet4 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet5 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet6 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet7 Used for custom networking.
- VMnet8 Used for network address translation (NAT) networking.
Each of these devices is logically associated with a virtual
Ethernet adapter through which
any number of virtual machines and the host may communicate.
