What does this gateway do?

It enables users on the World-Wide Web to read the transactions in world-readable Discuss meetings.

Why are we serving Discuss to the outside world?

Because we thought that MIT people would find it handy, and other people interesting.

Why can I read some Discuss meetings on Athena, but not through this gateway?

You can only read meetings that are world readable through the gateway.

Can I post to Discuss using this gateway?

No. Most of the Discuss meetings are intended for discussion among the MIT community. If you want to use a system that's available world-wide, try Usenet (NetNews).
