Printing ATK format files on Athena is done using special Andrew software 
rather than the standard Unix lpr command.


\section{Printing an EZ file

}
\leftindent{There are two ways to send an EZ file to the printer: by using the 
\bold{Set Printer} and \bold{Print} menu options in either the \bold{EZ} 
editor or the previewer, or by typing the \italic{ezprint} command at your 
athena% prompt.   Both methods involve two steps:  selecting the printer that 
your file will be sent to and then sending the file.  


\subsection{Method 1:  Printing from within EZ (using the menus)

}
This tends to be the faster and more reliable of the two methods.   First you 
need to tell the \bold{EZ} window what printer to use.  To do this, select the 
menu option \bold{Set Printer} on the \bold{File} menu card.  The message

will appear in the message box at the bottom of the window with the text caret 
after the colon waiting for you to enter the name of a printer.\leftindent{ 
} After you type in a printer name, the following confirmation message will 
appear:

You must  set the printer name  for each independent \bold{EZ} window before 
you select \bold{Print} in that window's \bold{File} menu card.


You can now select the \bold{Print} menu option from the \bold{File} menu 
card, which sends the current version of  your document to the printer you 
specified with the \bold{Set Printer} command.  \leftindent{

\subsection{Method 2:  Printing from the Athena system prompt

}
To print \bold{EZ} documents without having to open an \bold{EZ} window, you 
 need to tell Athena what printer to send your file to and then specify what 
file to send.  You can do this all on one command line by typing

The athena% prompt will return after a short pause indicating that your file 
has been sent to the printer.


If you will be printing out a large number of files and don't want to have to 
specify the printer on the ezprint command line everytime you send a file to 
the printer, you can make a certain printer your default printer for the 
duration of your login session by typing the following:

Your prompt should return almost immediately.  This command only needs to be 
executed once in each of your xterm windows that you will use for sending 
files to the printer.  Now to send an \bold{EZ} file to the printer, type
