The "official shutdown" for users will be on 1/2/88 (at roughly 9am).
Multics will be up for a few days after that to take complete dumps and
do other cleanups. I'm hoping to organize some sort of wake later in
January after I return from vacation. If there is anything planned for
12/31 I am not aware of it.

I talked to Schiller, and here's the plan for the shutdown:

************************************************************************

You are cordially invited to a Multics shutdown. The actual machine is
in W91, but due to crowd considerations, the center of activity will be
the SIPB office, 11-205, and the surrounding terminal rooms.

People should be starting to gather around 8:30 am tomorrow, Saturday,
January 2, 1988. The system will be shutdown at 9:00 am.

After the shutdown, Schiller and others (who will be in W91 shutting
down the machine) will head over to Bldg 11 to join the crowd, and a
subset will all head out to brunch. (Place to be determined).

Come help us use the final time-slices of one of the original
time-sharing systems!

************************************************************************

I expect there will be a more formal wake when Roger returns from
vacation. But this is for people who want to be around when the system
actually gets shutdown.
