I am applying for a position as Nursery School Director in response to
your advertisement in the May 20 @i[Boston Sunday Globe.]

I began studying and working in education over 20 years ago, getting
my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and my graduate
degree in management, first working with special needs children and
later with 2-6 year olds.  I have run my own classrooms and acted as
head teacher, supervising student teachers and teacher aids, managing
teams of educators and therapists, coordinating programs and
communicating with parents of students.  While working at the Child
Care Circuit, I have developed curriculum materials for preschool
programs.  Currently I am working as a substitute teacher in Middleton
and the Hamilton-Wenham district and as a volunteer in kindergarten
classes in West Concord, Lexington and Hamilton-Wenham.

I believe my experience and training have given me an awareness of
children's developmental and individual needs as well as the skills
necessary for designing and implementing a curriculum, supervising and
supporting teachers and working with parents.

My current areas of interest are developmentally oriented curriculum
and the effects of classroom design and organization on children's
learning.  Young children need a warm, supportive and challenging
setting where they may directly explore their world.  They learn best
from concrete experiences presented within a carefully structured
classroom.  As part of my master's program, I wrote a research paper
on the importance of classroom design to children's learning.  I
believe that this is a largely untapped opportunity to facilitate
children's education.

I look forward eagerly to applying my ideas on developmental curriculum
and classroom design.
