Director of Curriculum and Instruction,
Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District
775 Bay Road,
South Hamilton, MA 01982

Dear Mr. Kaufman:]

I am applying for a position as kindergarten teacher in the
Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District.

I enjoyed working as a substitute teacher in the Kindergarten Center.
I especially appreciated the opportunity to observe your kindergarten
program, to work closely with the other kindergarten teachers and to
share with them my curriculum ideas and materials.

I began studying and working in education over 20 years ago, getting
my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education. My graduate
degree is in Management in Human Services. I started my career
working with special needs children. I have run my own classrooms and
acted as head teacher, supervised student teachers and teacher aides,
managed teams of educators and therapists, coordinated programs and
communicated with parents of students. While working at the Child
Care Circuit, I developed curriculum materials for preschool programs.
This year, I worked as a substitute teacher in Middleton as well as
the Hamilton-Wenham School District and as a volunteer in kindergarten
classes in West Concord, Lexington and Hamilton-Wenham.

My current areas of interest are developmentally-oriented elementary
curriculum and the effects of classroom design and organization on
children's learning. I believe that classroom design is a largely
untapped opportunity to facilitate children's education. I have had
training in the "Math Their Way" elementary math curriculum and have
become familiar with the "Whole Language" approach to teaching reading
and writing skills. I am enthusiastic about both of these curriculum
programs. Next week, I will be attending a five-day @i[Whole Language
Institute] at Lesley College.

My experience and training have given me an awareness of children's
developmental and individual needs as well as the skills necessary for
managing a classroom, implementing a curriculum, supervising student
teachers and talking with parents. I look forward eagerly to applying
my ideas on developmental curriculum and classroom design.
