Device Settings
The
Device Settings
screen allows you to set the default behavior for all handheld devices within the institution. To access the Device Settings screen, select
Device
from
Edit Settings
menu.
The
Device Settings
screen allows you to configure the following parameters:
-
Battery Requires Attention Threshold
: This setting determines the battery level at which a handheld user will receive a warning. The level is set as a percentage between 0% and 100%. If the available battery power falls below this setting, an alert will be displayed on the user's handheld device telling them that their power is getting low.
-
Memory Requires Attention Threshold
: This setting determines the free memory level at which a handheld user will receive a warning. The level is set as the number of Kilobytes and is set separately for Palm OS devices and Pocket PC devices. If the available free memory falls below this setting, an alert will be displayed on the user's handheld device telling them that the memory level is getting low.
-
Maximum Time Between Syncs Before Alert is Displayed
: This setting determines when the data expiration control warns the handheld user that they haven't synced recently and risk having stale data. This setting is an integer number of hours between 1 and 72. If the maximum time is exceeded, a warning is displayed on the user's handheld device warning them of the risk of having stale data.
-
Warning Interval after Alert is Displayed
: This setting is the amount of time, between 1 and 180 minutes, that determines how often the warning will be displayed to the handheld users telling them that the maximum time between syncs has been exceeded.
-
Require Login after Sync
: This setting determines whether or not a handheld user must enter their password after performing a sync. Set to
yes
to require a password.
-
Require Login after Handheld Timeout
: This setting determines whether or not a handheld user must enter a password after the PatientKeeper application times out from inactivity. Set to
Yes
to require a password.
-
Handheld Network Connection Timeout
: This setting is the amount of time, between 41 and 1200 seconds, that the handheld device will wait for an initial network connection for syncing before timing out. This value should be set high, such as 100 seconds, if you suspect there is slow network performance at your facility.
-
Handheld Network Read Timeout
: This setting is the amount of time, between 10 and 1200 seconds, that the handheld device will wait for a response from the server during a sync before timing out. The recommended setting is 60 seconds.
-
Require Login after `n' minutes of Inactivity
: This setting is the amount of inactivity, between 1 and 60 minutes, before timing out the PatientKeeper application. This means that the user may have to enter a password to start using the system again if
Require Login after Handheld Timeout
is set to
Yes
.
-
Disable Handheld Applications after `n' Login Attempts on Handheld
: This setting determines the number of login attempts, between 1 and 10, that a handheld user can make before the user's PatientKeeper applications are disabled. Note that this applies only to accessing PatientKeeper through the handheld device.
-
Disable Web Access after `n' Login Attempts on Web
: This setting determines the number of login attempts, between 1 and 10, that a user can make via the web interface before access is disabled. Once access is disabled, you can still access Mobilizer so that you can sync; however, you cannot access any of the data on the handheld device. Note that this only applies to accessing PatientKeeper through the web interface, and does not affect their handheld device.
-
Disable Syncs after `n' Sync Attempts
: This setting determines the number of sync attempts, between 1 and 10, that a user is allowed to try before the server no longer allows them to sync their handheld device. Specifically, this is the number of times a handheld user tries to submit their password during their initial sync attempt.
-
Clear Handheld Data after Maximum Login Attempts on Handheld
: This setting determines whether or not the patient data is cleared from the handheld after the maximum value of login attempts, as set by
Disable Handheld Applications after `n' Login Attempts on Handheld
, is reached. Set to
Yes
to erase the data, which automatically makes the next successful sync by the handheld user a long, full sync.
-
Auto-retry on Server Failure
: This setting determines whether or not the handheld device automatically attempts to sync again after getting a server error. Set to
Yes
to retry if your network performance is unusually slow. The recommended setting is
No
.
