Viewing and Filtering Charges in the Holding Bin
Any user can view charges in the Holding Bin. Health care providers can view the charges for their patients, while administrators can view all of the charges for all of the patients in the Holding Bin. Note that even though a charge is in the Holding Bin, it can still be edited until the administrator sends it to the Outbox for batch billing.
To view and filter the charges in the Holding Bin:
-
Select
Holding Bin
from the
View Charges
pull-down list.
-
Health care providers will see the charges in the Holding Bin for a particular patient.
The
Reason Held
field will display why the charge is currently in the Holding Bin. In many cases, this may simply be set to
All
, indicating that the department has been configured such that all charges are held until they are reviewed by an administrator and then sent on for billing.
-
Administrators will see all of the charges for all patients in all departments, by default.
This summary screen will highlight any charges that contain errors. Administrators can edit those charges to resolve the errors by clicking on the
Edit
button for the selected charge; or, the administrator can remove the charge by clicking on the
Delete
button.
-
Choose the appropriate filter combinations to reduce the amount of information displayed in the Holding Bin.
-
For health care providers, the only available option is to filter the Holding Bin by patient. To view the charges for a different patient, choose that patient's name from the
Select Patient
pull-down list.
-
For Administrators, there are four available pull-down lists at the top of the
View Holding Bin
screen that you can use to change how the information appears.
-
The
Sort
pull-down list lets you sort how the information is displayed, according to the following parameters:
Service Date
(the default),
Submission Date
,
Patient
, and
Provider
. This filter does not remove any information, it simply specifies the order in which you want to view whatever information is displayed.
-
The
Filter
pull-down list lets you display a subset of charges according to error types.
All
(the default) displays all charges including those with and those without errors.
Validity Errors
displays only those charges that are not valid. For example, if free-text diagnoses are not allowed in your facility and a user has specified one for this charge, it would be flagged as having a validity error.
Code Edit Errors
displays only those charges that have code edit violations, such as a procedure that can only be performed on a female patient is being billed for a male patient.
Warnings
displays only those charges with warnings. For example, a charge may have a date warning if a provider has edited a transaction too long after the patient's discharge, according to the Charge Capture Preferences settings specified for that provider.
-
The
View Charges
pull-down list lets you specify how to view the data. You can choose to display the
Charge Summary
(the default available from the Charge Capture Desktop), those charges in the
Holding Bin,
or those charges in the
Outbox
.
-
The
Department
pull-down list lets you choose to display information for a specific department, by selecting that department's name, or to display the information for
All
departments (the default).
