	The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by mkgray.

Some guy has been using the Mac for a program he's selling. He uses it
a lot, but is probably polite. What do we think about [non-member --
Marc] using our computers for commercial products.

we  have a educational license for the compiler so this is  illegal --

mhbraun: Podge is a maxine, talk about hardware  swaps.
	head, mouse with hodge.
	maxine for server and a number of AFS hard drive.	
	WE have alreaden gotten all the allocated things we asked for
	but there are a few things we idn't ask for that was allocated and a
	few things we assked for that aren't allocated, so things are
	confused

mhbraun: replaced the  terminator  on the mac, not working right.

tlyu:	the bulletin board is still not hung.
yandros:someone important came by, said it would be looked after
	nothing happened.
yandros: keesh has a splufty new 400$ video card that is useless for a
	new vaporware Xserver.

	MIT Computing Report:

mkgray: section of w20- net fell down (w20-575-50..55, ajax-p). Lou
	borrowed some thinnet and ater gave it back.

        Computer Services:

jtkohl: bloom-beacon will have to go away.  enterpoop will serve
	beacon stuff.  
yandros et al.: enterpoop name stays discussion about
	which name should be the real name and which should be a cname.
Marthag: some discuss stuff and other stuff to be done

Jweiss: would like to take down SIPB VAX tonight
	some stuff should be dumped to tape.

mhbraun: we have some long cables we would like to trade for short
	cables.  (60' cable on ronald-ann isused for a 4' length)
yandros: something about a vampire
mhbraun: says vampires don't exist
jweiss:	short outages may happen tonight when rewiring.
yandros: cannot backup  stuff  when outages are happening.

mhbraun: small AFS outage when halting ronald-ann to install third AFS drive.
mhbraun: we don't know how much power we're using in the machine room,
	and we don't know where it's coming from.  yandros: we are
	using about double what we should.  
mhbraun: what about taking
	tha Athens drives down? are we  really on 1 breaker?
jweiss: old Ronald-ann a.k.a. Opus (IBM RT) will be going away RSN
marthag: News outages expected tonight
Yandros: more news outages later.
jtkohl:	stuff about Latex style files for new fonts (Palatino..) and
	stuff. Offline
mkgray:	mkgray  with yandros' help set up a www server on charon.
	charon has yet another cname: www (yandros: !web) bert: as of
	today dvips will default to 600dpi fonts. this shouldn't cause
	problems for 300dpi printers. it tells users how to get to them.
yandros: everyone should memorize the document he's holding. Its a
	50pg complete listing of everyting in the sipb locker. we
	should clean up its full of cruft.
yandros: teh Next colume is  gone. Chad screwed up. rm is forever. we
	have the stuff on tape, so we probably want to rebuild.
marc et al: we should upgrade milo to NS 3.0 so we can support NS for
	intel. Marc may be able to  get a free copy.
mhbraun: the tape backup will go away in three weeks, we shoul restore
	it from tape.

	its reaallly splufty.
	be careful with transparencies, bad ones will melt
differences between regular printers:
	non quotad,
	keypad not  locked
	error pages on
	non auth
	heading pages on
	personality is auto, if you can send it PCL, currently the
spooler willturn it into postscript.
	it will accept appletalk, you can print directly to it.
	it will accept novell packets, but you can't get them to it.
	
	does weird-sh*t with duplexing, dont block the part where
paper spits out and draw it back in.
	
yandros: do we wnt font cartridges for meadow?
	they do not cost 120$, that's what toner cartridges cost.
	do NOT use refurbished cartridges, in the printer
bert knows what fonts he wants.

ceres has reached 3000 pgs ajax 2000pgs. the toner cartridges are
	rated for 8000

Marc:	the 778 phone is  dead again
	tlyu may or may not deal

mkgray will deal about getting a a 486.
mhbraun: we should push, hard.

marthag: colour printer?
yandros: not gonna happen.

yandros: matt,what happened re: getting an HP
mkgray: is dealing, or not.
sidlives: IS has been getting HP's donated, there's one in the test cluster.

        SIPB AFS Cell Backup Report:

well? it hasn't happened. It will be strange since the migration. 
Marc should should fix his script its got weird minor problems.
the backup should go much faster since the RT became a maxine.

yandros: Richard hasn't helped upgarde the backup software so we will
	be using the old backup software.

mhbraun: anyone have any questions about changes to the cell.
