         Java Development Kit 1.4.0 available for Sun and Linux  
 
The JDK 1.4.0 production release has been installed on Athena for Sun
and Linux.  This version replaces an earlier release candidate
(1.4.0rc). The latest available production versions of Java 3d and the
Java Advanced Imaging API have been added to the installation.

We don't plan to make this version (or a later update) the default JDK
until sometime this Summer. To run it now, type "add java_v1.4.0"
(Linux) or "add -f java_v1.4.0" (Sun) followed by the appropriate JDK
component invocation ("javac myfile.java" etc.)
