doamer
- doamer, pronounced "doh-mur". Slang, origins in West Phil-
adelphia and its southwestern suburbs, circa 1986-87.
Acronym for "Dancin' On Air Material", referring to the
habitues of an afternoon television show, "Dancin' On
Air", which was broadcast on Channel 17 in Philadel-
phia during the eighties and featured bland dance-pop.
"Doamers" were those who listened to such music- at
the time, "Tiffany" and "Debbie Gibson", wore acid-
washed clothing, and spent time at the Springfield
Mall, an otherwise reviled lanmark of suburbanism.
Sprayed, vertical puffs of hair just above the
forehead were emblematic of such individuals, invar-
iably female.
