MIT Flying club activities - The Flying Team

THE TEAM

The MIT Flying Team will compete in the National Intercollegiate Flying Competition Region VII event in October, 2001. The team will consist of at least 2-4 members, but possibly more depending on interest and available funding. Not all team members are required to be pilots - there are competition events that do not require a pilot's license.

THE COMPETITION

The Region VII competition will be held October 23-27, 2001 at New Castle County Airport in New Castle, Delaware.

The events at the competition can be broken into two categories:

Flying Events

  • Power Off Landing Event
  • Short Field Approach and Landing Event
  • Navigation Event
  • Message Drop Event (toss a piece of wood out of the window)
  • IFR Precision Flight Event

Ground Events

  • Computer Accuracy Event
  • Ground Trainer Event
  • Aircraft Preflight Inspection Event
  • Aircraft Recognition Event
  • Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation
  • Electronic Flight Computer Event
  • IFR Simulated Flight Event

When the team members are finalized, each member will take responsibility for some subset of the events. It is also possible for multiple team members to compete in an event.
