Airports

Sterling (K3B3)

Sterling is about a one hour drive by car from Cambridge and is a fairly rural and quiet airport during the weekdays. It gets very busy with gliding activity in the weekends. There is one paved runway and a parallel grass strip. The approach and landing can be tricky (3010'x40'), because the runway is narrow and pretty close to trees on the east side.

To get there

  • By car:
Get on Route 2 West all the way down to Route 190, get off exit 6 at Sterling, and when you get in to the village of Sterling, follow the (small) signs to the airport.

Flying clubs
Most of the planes are privately owned, but there is one FBO.

The FBO is very small and owned by one guy. He owns two airplanes: Cessna 152 and 172. The C152 is $47/hour (price updated June 2002).

Soaring clubs
The two clubs merged June 2002 and the operational integration is pending. You can go for glider rides on weekends and holidays. Contact Laurence (langlois@mit.edu) if you are interested.
