Pictures from a flying trip to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket

These pictures were taken by Andreas Wehowsky on the flying trip to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket in the middle of May 2001. We (Andy, Laura and myself) took off from Hanscom Air Base on a beautiful sunday and flew to Martha's Vineyard main airport (MVY) to have some lunch. Then we flew to a smaller airport with three grass runways, Katama, to check out the beach. We took off again and headed for Nantucket, where we did a touch and go and then we headed back to Boston.

We are approaching MVY.

We have just landed on MVY. Andy is standing in front of the ramp.
Some people just arrived with their jets to have lunch.

The house of Martha's Vineyard General Aviation is really neat.

From the left. Laura, Andreas and Andy. Both Laura and Andy are in the air force, and all of us are graduate students at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT.

We have left MVY and are heading for Katama. The picture shows one of the grass runways and the beach right next to the airport. When it's busy in the summer, Katama can have up to 150 small airplanes parked right next to the beach!

On the left downwind to RWY 25. Some people are already at the beach now!

We have landed and are heading to the beach.

The beach...

We love this place and are sure heading back some time...

We have left Katama and are heading to Nantucket. The picture shows the coast line of Martha's Vineyard.

Doing a touch and go on Nantucket airport.

There are some really big houses on Nantucket, though they look small from 1000 ft!

Even more nice houses on Nantucket.
