The MIT Flying Club (MITFC) is a community of pilots, instructors, students, and faculty interested in general aviation.  Its primary purpose is to motivate, encourage, and facilitate an affordable, hands-on experience in flying for all members of the MIT community.  Steeped in tradition, the MIT Flying Club has been around, in one form or another, for almost 80 years.

Throughout the year, the flying club holds a variety of informal gatherings.   Members meet once or twice a month to discuss aviation, listen to lectures, and watch movies.  During the warmer months, MITFC members, utilizing the rich general aviation resources available in the Boston area, organize flying trips to Provincetown, Martha’s Vinyard, and Nantuckett.  During the rest of the year, carpooling to local airports is offered.

This summer, MITFC is working to create a library of navigational and instructional materials.  Several textbooks, a headset, U.S. sectionals, and airport facility directories will soon be available for members to borrow.  In addition, a "loggable" flight simulator is being readied for use by the start of the academic year.

While flying club members work diligently to purchase a plane for the club, airplane time is available through membership in the affiliated Hawk Flying Club.  Each semester, 2 members are allowed to use HFC’s plane at a very minimal cost.

We look forward to seeing some fresh faces in n the fall.  Membership is easy--just attend at least one meeting a year--and is open to anyone, no matter what the experience.  More information about the club can be found at our website, http://web.mit.edu/mitflying/index.html, and if you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Christopher Sequeira (csequeir@mit.edu), our club president.
