Essential RS/1:  Sketch of Requirements



1.  Audience:  The undergraduate who knows how to login to Unix, has little
               other knowledge of Unix or computers, and who wants to use
               RS/1 to help him/her prepare a lab report.

2.  Draft by early March.

3.  Short.  10 or fewer pages (5 leaves).

4.  Use a concrete example, follow it through all steps.

5.  Show:
      -mkdir?
      -how to enter RS/1 (graphics terminal)
      -simplified command format rules
      -get help
      -leave RS/1

      -enter a table of data using prompting editor
      -graph it on the screen (X x Y, others?)
      -run some statistics on it

      -specify subsets of graph?

      -hardcopy of table
      -hardcopy of plot
      -modify tables
      -list them
      -delete them
      -see contents of them

      -more information, more to do

      -other topics as necessary

6.  Work with a real TA/students to see their problems.

7.  Work with BB&N to see what could be turned into a permanent vendor
    document.

8.  Conduct one review cycle that encompasses projects, consulting
    staff, and regular athena staff.

9.  Format text with Scribe.  Print masters on Imagen.

10. Deliver source and formatted master.
