To: kim cc: Subject: The appropriateness of doing "Night Music" with you -------- I don't know about you, but I feel like the night has been smiling a whole hell of a lot for me recently, as regards you. I always have to be polite and formal when I'm talking to you around other people, so let me just say a few things through the relative privacy of e-mail. It looks like things have worked out pretty well for you and Josh, as well as for myself and Kristin. I hope I perceive rightly that you may have found the real thing, or at least a real thing, with Josh. A one-year anniversary! I'm immensely happy for you. I'm also feeling a little sheepish about having so little contact with you since last November, after some of the things we said and did. I want you to know that I meant everything I said and I wouldn't take back a word, but I think we both realize that we'd be giving up an awful lot if we tried to reclaim some of our past. Let's face it, our timing just sucks. I hope there's no bitterness, I hope you don't feel I've been deliberately ignoring you, I hope our friendship lasts in whatever contorted fashion it can. It's great to see you again. I'll be starting a new job soon, probably next week, probably at a company called Cambridge Scientific Computing in Central Square (although possibly at a company called AdValue near the Galleria). If I can work it out so that Kristin does not become uncomfortable, I'd love to have lunch with you once in a while when my paychecks start coming in. Whaddya say? Love, Bob
