• In April 1644, during the Civil War, "There went down to Banff the Lairds of Gight, Newton and Ardlogie, with a party of 40 horse and musketeers, brave gentlemen. They took in the town without contradiction, meddled with the keys of the Tolbooth, took free quarters, and plundered all the arms they could get, buff coats, pikes, swords, pistols, yea and money also. They took frae Alexander WINCHESTER, one of the bailies, 700 merks, whilk he had as one of the Collectors of the taxations, and loan silver of Banff; and siclike took frae him 400 merks of his own gear . . . Gight keepit all the monies." [ref. 2]
• James WYNCHESTER, son of the town clerk of Banff, admitted burgess 1638 "frielie jure paternatatis". [ref. 4]
• Patrick WYNCHESTER, merchant in Kirkwall, admitted burgess of Banff, 1662. [ref. 4]
• Florrie WINSISTER, minister of Inverkeithny, Marnoch, and Rothiemay, Banffshire, in 1563. [ref. 3]
• On 17 Jun 1702, Elizabeth WINCHESTER witnessed the baptism at Banff of Elizabeth SMITH, daughter of Alexander SMITH. [ref. 5]
