"Word Wrap" The following document contains instructions for installing, registering and navigating through your City Directory. It also contains answers to frequently asked questions. If you have any problems with your software or would like more information about any of Per Annum's products or services, please don't hesitate to contact us either by phone at (800) 548-1108 or by e-mail at: info@perannum.com. System Requirements: Your City Directory Software was designed to run on the Palm Operating System, version 2.0 or higher and may be used on any Palm Computing Product including the IBM WorkPad. Dependent upon the city that you've chosen, the application and its related files occupy between 200k and 400k free memory on your device. The first time that you open the application, you will be prompted to enter your registration number. At that point, you have the option of either entering your code and enjoying unlimited access to the data or selecting a trial version. The trial version contains all of the same information but will automatically expire after 15 days. At that time, you will once again be prompted for a registration code. Installation from a PC: Double-click on each of the five program files to automatically send them to your Palm Install Tool. Afterwards, the next time that you HotSync, your City Directory will appear as an icon "Per Annum" on your PDA's main menu. Note: Because of the size of the directory, it may take several minutes for the files to transfer. Installation From A MAC: In order to properly install Per Annum City Directory Software, your Mac must be running 3Com's Palm Desktop Software version 2.1 or higher. The latest version may be downloaded directly from 3Com. Click "Add" and navigate to the folder where your extracted files are stored. NOTE: You must add all 5 files to your list in order for the software to function properly. Click "Done". During your next HotSync, HotSync Manager will verify that the files have been successfully transferred. If you are running one of the demo versions, your installation is complete. Registration: The first time that you select "Per Annum", you will be prompted to enter the registration code that you were provided when you subscribed. After your code is accepted, "Per Annum" will create a file to verify that you are a registered user. If you delete "Per Annum" and its related files from your PDA and attempt to reinstall it, you will be asked to enter your code again. For that reason, we recommend storing your code in a safe place. Downloading an update will not cause you to have to reenter your code. If you are not a registered user you may select "Trial Version" and test the Directory Software for 15 days before being asked to subscribe. You may subscribe to any of our City Directories by either visiting our Web site or speaking with us over the phone. Once we have generated a registration code for your PDA, you will NOT need to reinstall the software. FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions 1) Where can I find my User ID? Go to the main applications screen of your palm. Tap the HotSync icon. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, your name or a nickname of some sort should appear. This is your User ID/User Name. Our registration process is case-sensitive so be sure to type exactly what appears here (including capital letters and spaces) when placing your order. 2) How do I use my Per Annum City Directory? Per Annum software is designed to be user-friendly. The main screen contains four elements: About: displaying copyright information and the version of the city directory that you currently have installed. Category: beginning with 24-Hour Services and containing an alphabetical table of contents for the types of numbers that may be found within the directory. Sub-Category: designed to help you narrow your search. Search: displays a choice of listings once the desired category has been chosen. Using your stylus, select "Category" and choose the type of listing that you are searching for, e.g. "Hotels". If your choice contains sub-categories (e.g. "Uptown"), choose one from the list. Select "Search". The next screen that appears will display all the listings in the directory that meet your criteria. Choose the specific listing you desire to record the number and address that appear. At any point throughout, select "Back" to return to the previous screen. When the listings exceed the available screen space, scroll down using either your stylus and the on-screen arrows or the scroll buttons on your PDA. If you know the exact name of what you're searching for, you can use the look-up function to jump directly to it. 3) What if I want to load multiple cities at one time? Due to current memory limitations, PDA's are restricted to the installation of one City Directory at a time. However, multiple directories may be purchased and stored on your Laptop or Desktop computer. When traveling to the alternate city, simply HotSync that city's data files onto your palm. This will overwrite your current City Directory. Your PDA will store the first city's registration code so that you will not be prompted for it when you switch back. If switching between directories isn't the solution for you, try our Metropolitan City Directory. It contains condensed information on 18 cities. 4) Can I add my own listings to the database? The current version of Per Annum's City Directory software does not allow the addition of personal listings. 5) Can I transfer Per Annum information into my address book? Unfortunately not! The information contained in our City Directories is proprietary and may not be copied or reproduced without express permission of Per Annum, Inc. Given the ease though, with which the information can be accessed on your PDA, consider your City Directory an extension to your personal address book. 6) How does Per Annum, Inc. decide which listings to include? We annually update our listings in order to provide you with only the most current information. We also receive thousands of customer response cards each year suggesting additions and other changes. Please feel free to send your suggestions and corrections to cityresearch@perannum.com. 7) Where are all the maps that you include in your print version? Maps take up a tremendous amount of memory and are unfortunately not yet a feasible option, given the current storage capacities of most PDA's. In addition, the current size and clarity of most PDA screens makes them difficult to read. 8) Can I download the directory onto a friend's PDA? No -- the registration number that you received is based in part upon your User-Name and will only work on a PDA configured to you. 9) Does my City Directory Software expire at the end of the year? No -- But your one-year subscription (with free updates) will expire. If you want to be sure that you have the most current listings and features, you will have to re-register. 10) I lost my registration number! What do I do? If, due to some system failure or unit upgrade you are required to re-enter your registration number, refer to the original e-mail that we sent you. If for some reason the number has truly been lost, fear not! Simply contact us at Per Annum, Inc. and we will happily look up your registration number and inform you over the phone or by e-mail. 11) Can I arrange volume discounts for my company? Per Annum, Inc. is happy to arrange custom software configurations and volume discounts for large orders. Don't forget to check out our selection of personalized PDA accessories as well. 12) I had to reinstall my software. Why doesn't my registration code work? When you reinstalled your City Directory you should have installed five files. To check if this is the case, tap on the drop down menu of your palm and select "info". Check the size of the perannum file. Is it under 200K? If so, you are missing one or more of the files. Delete the perannum file and try the installation again. You should HotSync 4 "City".pdb files and 1 Perannum.prc file. If your code still does not work, call us at 800-548-1108 so that we may assist you further.
