Subject: Earthquake...

Hi!

Fortunately, I weathered the earthquake just fine.

A VERY scary experience, though. I'm not looking forward to the next one.
No one in my apartment was hurt that I know of, although there was a lot
of damage to the rooms on the 4th and 5th floors. My apartment, having
very little in it, was easy to clean up. Except for some cracks in the
walls and a couple of things on the floor, it looked just as it did before.

Unfortunately, the people in the retirement home next door fared worse.
There were at least two injuries caused by the earthquake, and much emotional
distress caused by the following evacuation of the building. People did
remain calm, and helped carry the ones who couldn't walk, and comfort those
who were cold, scared, or needed chairs.

As with everything, earthquakes are much less glamorous in real life than on TV.
Experiencing a natural disaster reminded me of the wise saying:

Things don't matter, people do.
