I have many people to thank for supporting me on the road to where I am
today.  First I must thank Elizabeth Atkins who first introduced me to
these machines we call computers, and who provided me with an excellent
environment to learn about them.  I also must thank the members of the
Student Information Processing Board for providing another excellent
environment to learn about computers once I arrived at MIT (as long as I
could avoid the flames).  Several SIPB members deserve special thanks
for turning me into a Multician:  Charles Frankston, Barry Margolin, and
Bill York.  I have enjoyed working for Honeywell, through the good and
the bad, and want to thank Dave Vinograd and John Gintell for giving me
the opportunity to do so.  This thesis is an attempt to improve Multics,
hopefully it will not be in vain.

My friends have provided a tremendous amount of support.  The residents of
2west, past and present, have been a great comfort to me, making the decision
to stay and work or to go home a most difficult one.  Special thanks to Ramin,
who convinced me that this was a worthwhile thesis and who used my terminal
more than I did; Irene and Amy for being there when I needed them most, and
never tiring of listening to the same old story; Aya, Meilin, and Livia for
being special, I will never forget you.

Last, but certainly not least, I must thank by family.  My aunts Helen and
Theda and my Uncle Jim were always ready to put themselves out for me and
wished me the best.  My brother, despite all the conflicts of childhood, is a
true friend.  And most importantly, my parents who were supportive in the best
of times and the worst of times.  They offered advice, but always let me make
my own decisions, and I am eternally grateful to them.
