There are at least 30 educational institutions whose libraries are accessible over the internet. A few of these also have useful databases: + abstracts from all IEEE articles and conference papers since jan.88 (RPI) + Boston Library Consortium periodical catalog (UCalifornia :-) + faculty funding opportunities (PennState) + faculty research interests (for RPI,UNewMex,UPenn) + latin america newsletter (UNewMex) These can be accessed directally (ie telnet infotrac.rpi.edu), or by using a gnuemacs Info file which shows information, and creates telnet`s to the libraries (but only under XWindows). ... On athena: type attach cardcat; /mit/cardcat/bin/libraries & ********* Over dialup (login on Athena first), you can do the following: telnet library.mit.edu This will connect you to an experimental and unsupported front-end for Barton. The instructions should be simple and self-explanatory. To exit, hit Control-] and when you are at the "telnet>" prompt, type "quit".
