                       CBC Submissions and Postings
                 Chris McBride, moderator comp.binaires.cbm

Purpose:
The purpose of the USENET newsgroup c.b.c. is for the distribution of
binaries for 8 bit Commodore Machines. This includes Pets, Vic-20, Plus 4,
16, 64, 128. Commodore Amiga's have comp.binaries.amaiga, and Commodore Colt's
can post to comp.binaries.ibm.pc.*.

Monthly postings to CBC:

other utilities uuencoded versions of other useful ACE utilities

Submissions:
Files that would be of interest to many people, can be submitted.
Programs that are of interested to only one or two people should not be
submitted. In the United States it is illegal to submit Copyrighted material,
therefore they should not be submitted.
Files can be programs that run on an 8 bit Commodore, or they can be data
files used on 8 bit Commodores, for example sid files, or Koala pictures. GIF
pictures, Targa pictures, or other data files from an IBM or MAC environment
are not suitable for submission. Documentation for files posted is also
acceptable. Submissions to the newsgroup should be mail via email to

       cbm@cs.arizona.edu

Compression:
Unless a file is relatively small (a few K), the file(s) should be
compressed. Acceptable compression formats are self dissolving archives such
as SDA or SFX. For files that take up most of a 1541 disk, Zip Code compression
is also acceptable. Zipcode and self dissolving archive creators can be found
on the popular cbm FTP sites (listed at the end). Other compression techniques
are acceptable, but the two aforementioned techniques are recommended.

Binary encoding:
Until such time that a better technique exists on the 64 platform, all
binary files will be encoding using the UUENCODE standard. UUencoders and
decoders exist for all major platforms, including the C64 and 128. Files that
are larger than 50K should be split into pieces smaller than 50K.
Documentation for programs, should be uuencoded if they are PETSCII.

When submitting a File the Subject should be of the form:

Subject: progname (part XX/XX) Machine filetype short.description

The filetype should be one of the following:

game : A program for entertainment value
utility : Program to accomplish something constructive
demo : Coding demonstrations released be a demo group
text : Mostly PETSCII or ASCII text, docs, information, etc.
data : Music, pictures, or other data

Machine type should indicate what machine is required to use the file.
C64, C128, PET, Plus/4, C16, Vic20.

The description should be a short, 5 words or so, description of the file.
Demo released by Style. Terminal Program. Shoot-em up, etc.

In addition the first few lines of the first file should contain a more
detailed description. Also there should be an indication
of the origin of the file(whether it came from NTSC or PAL) as well as any
peripherals that are NECESSARY for the file to work(such as an REU)

The requirements should be listed only if the program MUST need them. For
example a 1581 toolkit program would list 1581, an REU disk ram utility would
list an REU. It is not necessary to list every peripheral that a given program
uses.

Testing:
Programs submitted to CBC will be tested, to ensure that they work. We
cannot guarantee that all functions of a piece of software will work under all
circumstances. Files will be posted to the newsgroup as soon as possible, but
it will generally be about a week or two after they are submitted.

Reposting:
I will not repost files, unless something happened and a given file missed
several sites. I have limited disk space on my end, and cannot keep copies of
the files around. We will try to archive the files on ftp.funet.fi.

Requests:
If you have a request for a file, please post to comp.sys.cbm. Any other
questions or problems can be directed to mcbride@cs.arizona.edu.

FTP:
Compressers, archivers, and uuxfer can be found by anonymous FTP at
ccosun.caltech.edu in North America and ftp.funet.fi in Europe.
