.AG ask
logical, should device driver ask before clearing
graphic display for a new figure?
Default TRUE.
.SH COMMENTS
The function `aed512' is the device driver for the Advanced Electronics
Design 512 color graphics terminal.
.PP
The `S AED' utility should be used immediately after logging on;
it provides initial values for the color table and the function buttons.
.PP
Color 0 (the background) is dark blue
and colors 1 through 8 are cyan, green, yellow, blue, magenta, red, white,
and black.
Colors 20 through 35 form a gray scale from black to white, and colors
50 through 89 are a spectrum of colors.
.PP
A feature of this terminal is that alphanumeric information
is displayed in an overlay separate from graphical information
(text in titles, axis labels, etc. is considered graphical).
Function keys 0 to 2, should be re-labelled "view alpha",
"view graph", and "view both",
to cause either the alphanumeric information, graphics, or both
to be displayed.
Function key 4, marked "erase", clears the alpha overlay,
and successive pushes of the buttons "full..." (key 3) and "erase"
completely clear the screen.
When the bottom of the screen is reached, alpha information
scrolls off the top.
The graphical display also scrolls, but wraps around.
Erasing the alpha display will re-center the graphical information.
.PP
Buttons marked "zoom in", "zoom out" and "pan"
control zooming and panning operations which allow portions
of the overall display to be viewed.
.PP
If `ask' is TRUE,
whenever a new plot is about to be produced the message "GO?" appears.
This allows further viewing,
making a hard copy, etc., before the screen is erased. When ready for
plotting to proceed, simply hit carriage return.
.PP
When graphic input (`identify', `rdpen') is requested from this
terminal, an "X"-shaped cursor appears
on the screen. The joystick should be moved to position
the cursor at the desired point, and then any
single character should be typed.
A carriage return will terminate graphic input
without transmitting the point.
.PP
The terminal can change character size and line type.
Character sizes are .75, 1, 1.5, and 2.
The characters of size .75 and 1.5 are from a lower-resolution font.
There are many line types, 1 through 7 being
solid, dot, dash, long dash, dash-dot, long dash with short space,
and dash-dash-dot.
Line types above 7 are determined by the left-to-right bit-representation
of the integer `lty+1'.
Characters cannot be rotated on this device.
.PP
A device must be specified before any graphics functions can be used.
