Academics

We all decided to attend MIT because it is one of the top schools in the country, no matter
what major you declare. For that reason, we take academics seriously at Phi Kappa Theta, and
provide a lot of assistance in helping freshmen adjust to the rigorous academic challenges of MIT.
Toward the beginning of the year, we hold a time management seminar that is mandatory for
freshmen in order to instill in them the proper fundamentals to get them through MIT. We also
have a Scholarship Chair to provide any assistance to the freshmen that they may need. Whether
that is merely reminding them that they have a test coming up, or finding them a tutor, we do our
best to ensure that freshmen make a smooth transition into MIT.
It is also common for freshmen to be able to go to any of the upperclassmen for help as they are
almost always willing to provide assistance with problem sets or advice on class and major select
ion. Additionally, many of the upperclassmen have books and course bibles which can be borrowed
by pledges or brothers.
We also have faculty mixers each term to improve faculty relations, and give brothers a better
chance to connect with their professors. In fact, these mixers have helped us win the IFC
Faculty Relations Award for the last two years, and three of the last four years.
All of this has helped give us a house GPA of 4.2, among the top quarter of all living groups.

"It's cool to have an opportunity to get to know my professor on a personal level. PKT does a
good job providing those opportunities."

"It's a great environment where everyone helps each other out. And because our house is so
diverse, you can always find someone to help you with any kind of problem."

"The upperclassmen are great resources. They gave me great advice on which classes
I should take and which ones I should watch out for."
