Brotherhood
|
|
Brotherhood is not something that is easy to define, whether on the phone,
on a web page, or even in person. In fact, if you were to ask each brother to define brotherhood,
you would probably not hear any two brothers give the same response. Despite our differing
views on its meaning, it is the most important part of Phi Kappa Theta and the best reason to join.
Every year, we have a house retreat called Quo Vadis in which we get away from our normal
daily lives and spend time talking about the house and each other as well as doing fun things that
allow us to grow closer together.
Another good thing about Phi Kappa Theta is that it is a national fraternity. This means
that we have chapters across the country, from Washington to California to Louisiana to New
Hampshire to Wisconsin. So as you travel to different places you can always stop by a different
chapter and meet new people knowing beforehand that you will have something in common, brotherhood.
So while we might not be able to define brotherhood, we can certainly give some experiences
that are a common result of brotherhood, and even some individual stories and definitions.

"Our house develops the most outstanding individuals due to the strength and integrity of our
brotherhood."

"I can't think of a good definition of brotherhood, other than the feeling I get when I'm around
good brothers that I know care about me. I can, however, think of examples. I think of Oludare
asking me how my day has been when he sees me. I think of KIP putting down his work to shoot the
breeze with people as they come in and out of his room. But most of all I think of Peter and
Larry in the Medical Center or Hospital and how many brothers would go and visit them, all
concerned with how they were doing. That's brotherhood."
