As MIT students, we are looked to as leaders for the future. We are also in the unique position of having plenty of knowledge and experience which can be used to benefit our surrounding community as well as the youth and energy to put that knowledge to use. It is for that reason that we strive to make our community a better place through service. Whether in Boston or in Cambridge, at MIT or afar, we Phi Kaps always want to be ready to serve our community. In order to do this, we love hosting neighborhood mixers in which we strive not only to meet our friends but also to show them what an MIT fraternity is all about. In addition, brothers try to devote much free time to participating in community service. From large-scale events, such as City Days, LINKS, Alley Rally, Walk for Hunger, and Project SCORE (yes, it's really a service event), to smaller, one-on-one activities, Phi Kaps dedicate their time and energy to aiding those in need. It's not uncommon to see a brother tutoring others in the dining room or leaving to help disadvantaged kids in a downtown elementary school. Brothers always find creative ways to give of ourselves, knowing that the only satisfaction we get is seeing the happiness of others. Essentially, every brother tries to incorporate into their lives our motto, "Give, expecting nothing thereof." |
