As with all fraternities, we are a social organization. Thus we have a variety of social events in an effort to appeal to people's differing tastes in the best kind of social event.

Parties
We typically have two open parties each term. They are primarily dance parties open to
all college students and are either dry or BYOB in accordance with MIT's alcohol rules.

Social Hour
These are the backbone of Phi Kappa Theta's social calendar as they occur every Friday
on weekends where we don't have other major social events (parties or semi-formals). They are closed events in which we invite guests over to hang out for an hour or two before everyone goes out to parties or whatever else they plan on doing that Friday night. Often they have themes like swing dancing, smoothies, or ice cream sundaes, which give a lot of versatility in providing a varied social atmosphere, but the important part is just hanging out, having fun, and meeting some new people or catching up with old friends.

Semi-formals
Let's face it, girls like to get dressed up and go out. So, once a term, we oblige their desires and take out our girlfriends, potential girlfriends, or just friends. Usually, this includes dinner and some other activity such as Blue Man Group, a harbor cruise, or an improvisational comedy show, but it's always a lot of fun.

Mixers
The primary goal of mixers is to get to know a variety of girls, whether they're from a
sorority at MIT, a Wellesley society, or any other group of girls from another college.
Typically, we have a couple mixers at the beginning of the year, and then one or two more over the rest of the year.

BBQ's
Barbecues are always a nice way to just hang out and relax. So, from time to time
we'll have barbecues, often spontaneously, and just chill with our brothers and friends on
our roof deck, enjoying the weather and the view of Boston and the Commonwealth Avenue Mall.

CoffeeHouse
This is an event that we hold once each term and can be likened to an open-mike comedy
night for the house. It consists mostly of skits and songs that poke fun at other brothers,
different pledge classes, or the house in general. This, too, is always a lot of fun.

Gift Exchange
Towards the end of the first term, as the Holiday spirit is brought out in each of us, we
hold Gift Exchange. As it isn't very feasible for each of us to get a gift for every other
brother, we do a secret Santa style event in which each brother draws a name out of a hat and gets a gift for one other brother. There's a trick, however. These gifts are more humorous than serious and, much like Coffeehouse, often poke fun at a particular trait of the individual receiving the gift. One of the best examples from last year was the
101 ways to avoid writing a paper
, written for Jose.
