Random Hall
Computing

Random Hall's computing facilities can be described in one word: gratuitous. Yeah. We have our washing machines and dryers hooked to the web (see laundry.mit.edu), and we're working on getting the bathrooms hooked up that way, too. You can check out what we have at bathroom.mit.edu. Other things we're considering are lights controllable through the web, lights that respond to music or preprogrammed flashing patterns, a zephyr class that goes to a hall phone in random, and a zephyr class that goes to a voice synth in Clam lounge (3-282). If you have any other suggestions, you can mail them to me at rsw@mit.edu.

If you are having trouble with JArthur, do the following:

  1. Contact me at rsw@mit.edu.
  2. Go downstairs and power-cycle (turn off, turn on) JArthur.
  3. Check if there's paper!
  4. From an athena prompt, type
    athena% lpq -Pjarthur

If there are any jobs ahead of yours that seem like they're not printing, contact the owner of the job and have them remove it with the queue with
    athena% lprm -Pjarthur < job# >

Where < job# > is the job number of the spooled job. This is displayed on the lpq screen.
