Hi---

Doing IAP Guide entries turns out to be incredibly painful over a
dialup link. I'd like to ask you to do some of them. Please take
a look at the system and maybe work through the first item on the
list and let me know whether this is realistic to ask you to do
before end of day tomorrow. It's more important that you give me
a realistic assessment of how much of this you have time to do
than that you try to do it all--- I have enough free time to do
it, it's just incredibly annoying over a modem....

If you have any questions, try zephyring me --- I'll be on and
off all day.

Thanks,

---Alex

Go to http://web.mit.edu/iap using netscape, either on athena or
on some machine where you're the primary user (this because there
are security certificates involved). Click on the link "Post and
Revise your IAP 2001 Subjects (for-credit) and non-credit Activities".

This will present you with their security certificate; you should
click the "always accept" option when it appears (otherwise you'll
have to repeat this every time you make a change). It will then
ask for your certificate; I *believe* these days all undergrads
have to have one to use websis anyway, so you'll already have one,
but otherwise it offers to walk you through creating one.

At any rate, you will next land on web.mit.edu/iap/postform.html;
from here click on "Edit and View my IAP Postings", which will
take you to a database generated page entitled "Posting Summary".
This page should have a table in the upper right; click on
"Rollover Candidates" there.

These are last year's IAP Guide entries for SIPB-sponsored classes.
To edit one, click on the box in the right-hand column.

This will bring up the class' detailed info; click the "Edit
description" box to edit it (duh!).

For most of these you won't need to change anything other than
the room, date, & time info; where something else needs to
change I'll list it below.

Once you've make the changes, click the "Verify and Save Current
Form Contents" button at the bottom of the form. This will give
you a chance to proofread and re-edit if need be. Next click
the "Submit to Guide" button, and go on to the next class.

The classes I'd like you to do this for, and the changes necessary,
are:

Introduction to LaTeX
   1/16, 1/23, 6:30-8:30 pm, 3-133

Introduction to Perl
   1/22, 1/24, 1/26, 6:30-8:30 pm, 4-370
change instructor to Aaron M. Ucko; leave the rest the same

Introduction to SAS Programming Language and Procedures
   1/23, 1/25, 1/30, 2/1, 6-8 pm, 1-115

Introduction to UNIX Software Development
   1/30, 2/1, 6-8 pm, 3-133

Caffeinated Crash Course in C
   1/17, 6-9 pm, 4-370

That's it for the repeats. There are about 10 others, all new classes.
If you'd be willing to deal with the entries for any of those, let
me know and I'll send you details.

Thanks,

---Alex
