Configuring an FTP Server

• Make sure the wu-ftpd package is installed
• Edit /etc/inetd.conf and uncomment the line:

  ftp    stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/sbin/tcpd  in.ftpd -l -a
  

• Then reboot or type:

  killall -HUP inetd

• For anonymous ftp, just install the anonftp package
• Put files to export in /home/ftp/pub
• Can configure with /etc/ftpaccess, /etc/ftpconversions, /etc/ftpgroups, /etc/ftphosts, and /etc/ftpusers
• Need local password in /etc/passwd for local users
  • Set with /usr/bin/passwd
• No way of doing kerberized ftp or getting tickets on login
• Use ftp.dialup.mit.edu for access to your Athena account
