Configuring XFree86

• 3 configuration programs:
  • Xconfigurator: text-based, developed by Red Hat, runs during install.
  • XF86Setup: graphical (on top of X in a "safe" mode). Not installed by default; to install it manually, run the following commands:

    attach -e small-gods:/redhat
    cd /small-gods/redhat/4.2/i386/RedHat/RPMS
    rpm -ivh XFree86-VGA16-* XFree86-XF86Setup-*
    

  • xf86config: XFree86's text configuration program; not as nice as Xconfigurator, but may support more hardware.
• You can also manually edit /etc/X11/XF86Config.
• In all cases, you should have reasonably detailed information on your video card, monitor, and mouse.
