It happened to be 2:30am, and people in theSIPB office said it was too late. So the next day, I made sure to ask at 10:30pm. mhbraun felt guilty and agreed to go with me. continued,,, , . krpeters: Message sent athena% zwrite krpeters Type your message now. We ran later, but had to stop again. He said he'd never want to run with me again. Every so often, I'd say, "Matt, wanna go running?" and he'd say "NO". We'd be in stan's car and people were making fun of his driving, and I'd say "Matt, wanna get out and run there?" and Matt would say, "NO". I became a "running" joke between us. continued... . krpeters: Message sent athena% zwrite krpeters Type your message now. End with control-D or a dot on a line by itself. Matt once said he wouldn't mind going swimming one of these days. Now, he;s a former waterpolo jock, and so I was hesitant, but figured it was only fair. So one day, I took him up on the offer, and arranged to go swimming with him every Monday and Wednesday morning from 7-8am. This was also to get him up for 18.03 which he was taking at 8:15am. He swam faster than me, of course, but since we were in a pool it didn't matterif he lapped me or something. . krpeters: Message sent athena% zwrite krpeters Type your message now. He agreed, and was contemplating this running thing again, but very hesitantly. We got other people to come swim with us, like yandros and autumn. Matt said, "I know I'm going to regret saying this, but what if we were to do something at least quasi athletic every day?" and I said, "Sure! Sounds good" and Matt said, "That's what I was afraid you'd say." and I said, "Then what would you rather me say?" and Matt said, "I was hoping you'd say I'd think about it." and I said, "Okay. I'll think about it." We decided to go running on Tuesdays, with the plan to walk across the Harvard Bridge, jog until the hatch shell, walk until the museum of science, run until we want to walk, and alternate walking and running until we get back to MIT. We did this, and Matt felt better about it. . krpeters: Message sent athena% zwrite krpeters Type your message now. End with control-D or a dot on a line by itself. Now Matt was saying he wouldn't mind backpacking. Then I got an idea. We'd backpack out to Walden pond, swim there, and backpack back. We eventually did this, but that's later. Then someone got the idea that we should bike sometime. Now I don't have a bike, and it's been 15 years since I'd ridden a bike. I found a friend who was willing to let me borrow his bike on Wednesday afternoons, and the first day, I discovered that one can indeed forget how to ride a bike. After three weeks, though, I got used to it, and got pretty comfortable doing normal things. Sometime in those weeks, we decided to go to Walden, but someone got the idea to bike there. I still wanted to backpack there, so did, with srz and nosaj, but a buch of others rode bikes there. We swam, had a good time, and came back. Now some time before this, wesort of merged this with the frisbee playing after SIPB meetings, and Patrick's frisbee playing group on Fridays, and got a bunch of people this way, like nosaj, srz, honor, peasant, jik, etc. (Which explains why srz and nosaj were there). . krpeters: Message sent athena% zwrite krpeters Type your message now. Now that bjaspan was here, he noticed we were swimming on monday morning, playing frisbee monday evenings, running tuesday evenings, swimming wednesday mornings, biking wednesday evenings, playing frisbee friday afternoons, but that we still didn't have anything for thursday. He proposed volleyball, and so we did that thursday afternoons. We later went canoeing "down" the concord and sudbury rivers one day, even if it was rather a long, very thin lake (at the beginning, we were wondering if we were indeed going downstream) After trying to get the inflatable canoe to go in the right direction, we eventually got the hang of it, much to the relief of the people in the normal canoes. It took longer than we expected to make the trip, but we got there without too much mishap. Some time before, we started a mailing list "aac", "Activities for the Athletically Clined", as opposed to "inclined". Anyway, if you have an interest in any of these things, I can add you to the list. End of story. New story coming up. . krpeters: Message sent
