The *.answers moderators Who's Who ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Paul King I'm a mathematics and computer science teacher at Adult Education Centre South (AECS) in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. AECS is part of the Peel District School Board. I am maintainer of the FAQ for sci.bio.food-science, and joined the moderation team in 2008. Blog: http://pjk.scripts.mit.edu/pkj/ FAQ: http://foodsci.info/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ David Alex Lamb I'm a professory of Computing and Information Science at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I've started and inherited several FAQs over the years since about 1990, and joined the moderation team in summer 1998. http://www.qucis.queensu.ca/home/dalamb/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Nick Boalch I'm a Creative Producer for a small touring theatre company based in the south of England. I became a *.answers moderator in autumn 2000. Any non-electronic communication can be addressed to me at: Nicholas Boalch St Aidan's College University of Durham Windmill Hill Durham DH1 3LJ http://nick.frejol.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Jonathan Kamens [Emeritus] I took over the vote for news.answers when the original proponent of the group disappeared in the middle of the discussion in late 1991, followed through with the discussion and the vote, got the group created, and became its first moderator. I served in that capacity for a couple years, including holding another vote to get the other *.answers groups created, and finally realized I needed help and started seeking out other moderators in early 1993. I graduated from MIT with a BS in Computer Science in May 1993, and I now work for OpenVision Technologies, Inc.'s security business unit. I maintain a number of FAQ postings of my own in addition to the work I do for *.answers. My address is: [out of date - deleted] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Pamela Greene [Emeritus] I'm a Ph.D. student in optics at the University of Rochester, New York, studying a particular novel type of semiconductor laser and the beam it emits. I've been participating in the Net "gestalt" to an ever-increasing degree since I was an undergraduate at Rice University. I became a *.answers moderator in the spring of 1995, with the hope of serving the global community in much the same way as I try to contribute to the world of ferret owners with the one FAQ I maintain. On behalf of Pixxel and Rusty, who got me into this, I ask that my share of any small monetary compensation offered for the products of *.answers moderation work be donated to a ferret-related charity; contact me for more information. Larger amounts of money, as well as any books, magazines, CD-ROMs, and so forth, can be sent to me at this address: Pam Greene, Institute of Optics, U. of Rochester, Rochester, NY 14627 My email address is . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Ping Huang [Emeritus] I graduated from MIT with my EECS bachelors and masters in June 1995, after five years. I am currently working at Silicon Graphics as a "member of technical staff" (e.g., engineer), in large part on network- and security-related projects. I first went on-line in San Francisco and learned about the wonders of networked communication via local dial-up bulletin boards and through participation in various Fidonet, RBBS, Smartnet, ILink, etc., message forums. I took to the Internet pretty quickly when I showed up at MIT in 1990. I became a *.answers moderator sometime in the middle of 1993, having then known Jonathan for a few years because I had the chance to work as a "watchmaker" student for Project Athena. Providing service to "the community" one way or another is something which I've dedicated my extra-curricular energies to for many years, and I see helping to moderate *.answers as one facet of my general volunteerism on and off the net. I maintain only one FAQ posting myself at this time, the soc.org.service-clubs.misc FAQ posting. For reference, although I'll be happy to accept gratis copies of publications which incorporate *.answers moderators' work, if there is to be monetary compensation instead, unless the average amount per moderator exceeds $100, I would prefer my share to be donated to an appropriate charity, to be determined by me. :) For contact information, see ~pshuang/.plan or finger pshuang@monk.mit.edu. Note that I read pshuang@MIT.EDU email (including email to faqs and news-answers-request) once every day or two nowadays. If I need to be contacted urgently, I read pshuang@SGI.COM email much more often. However, I prefer that most moderator-related email not be sent to my work email address. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- +++ Retired moderators Paul Schleck Leo Breebart Cindy Tittle Moore Alisa R.
