The past winter took a lot out of you. Delic is considered to be one of the best wintering spots on Eos, and even though you lived the ggod life in the Dunsmore villa, towards the tail end of the season you became bored. And you noticed you were out of form. You had attended all the parties, been seen with all the right people, and even managed to court some of the lovliest beauties at the Regents' Winter Court. But all that partying took it's toll. And now you've been summoned to do the work that you accepted in order to live this life. Rirke Gossel has summoned you... to become the Justice. The setting: It is 105 years after the assasination of the Emperor Talin Denethor Cayneek (some 600 years before Cayneek will be proclaimed Emperor). The Empire is beginning to feel the loss of its Emperor and his Legions. The once unruffled fabric of the Empire is beginning to show tears, as a second generation of human nobles comes to power without knowing the hand of the Emperor. In Delic, the Regents are beginning to worry that their power is slipping. Rirke Gossel, commander-in-chief of the Delician Army (mainly the infantry and cavalry of the Imperial Legions, and some new elite units formed by Gossel himself), is beginning to move his troops out of the cities where they wintered, into the holdings of landed nobles, and performing "military exercises" on that land. However, nobles in the Hellarene are late in sending their taxes to Delic, some making claims of bandits on the roads, others simply flaunting the Regents. (Hellarene is the land mass to the west of the Empire, conquered by Talin and his father in four brilliant military campaigns. It doubled the land mass of the Empire, and is rich in mineral deposits and farmland. However, its nobles are becoming recalcitrant with the absence of some over-awing figure looming over them.) The Regents are getting nervous. Enter the Justice. Ten years ago, Gossel dispatched Dunsmore, Tucker, Tyrras and Melin to join the Justice and to try to bring the Justice into his circle of allies. Apparently, Gossel has rooted out from variuos sources of information that the Imperial charter giving the Justice full Imperial authority still exists, even though the Justice has not given am Imperial command for over 700 years (the Justice have been around for 5000), and in the meantime have become no better than a mercenary company in ethics and prowess. People have forgotten about the Justice's imperial authority (this included the then leader), and the Justice is simply viewed as another mercenary company in this growing time of trouble. Six months later, at the battle of Crene's Pass, the Justice was decimated almost to a man, and the only people that survived the aftermath were Dunsmore, Tucker, Tyrras and Melin. Dunsmore did retreive the charter, but when Gossel asked him if he had, Dunsmore replied that he was still looking for it, and that it might be hidden in some cache of the Justice, which he had to research. Luckily, the winter started before Gossel pushed Dunmore to go out and get it, so he's had some time to think. The rest of you are close friends and associates of Dunsmore & Co. When they trusted you enough, they opened up and told you their secrets, in return exacting a pledge of loyalty, and your acceptance of membership into the Justice. The players: (you know _all_ of the followng information) Cainlan Dunsmore (aka Cainlan Endolex Cayneek). 8th level Ranger. Colonel in Gossel's elite Ranger unit. Decorated numerous times for acts of valor on the battlefield. Inside the Justice, he is the "High Lord Justicar." Patron: Duke Rirke Gossel, commander-in-chief Delician Army, Regent of the Empire, Cain Dunsmore, Lord Mayor of Delic, Cainlan's father. His secrets: Cainlan has a speckled history in the army. Only Gossel's weight managed to get Cainlan transferred out from a regiment in which he was facing a court-martial for insubbordination. Cainlan got out unscathed, but made enemies within the ranks. Gossel pulled Cainlan into the intelligence side of his own elite Rangers. Cainlan's mission was to infiltrate the Jutice with his friends and move the Justice into a position where they would support Gossel. Cainlan is suspicious that he is a pawn in some plan of Gossel's. Ever the conspiracist, Cainlan believes that Gossel is planning to revive the Justice's charter, at which point the Justice would remove the Regents and name Gossel the new Emperor. Unknown to Gossel, Cainlan is the heir to the Empire, and has been told his true bloodline by his foster father, Cain Dunsmore, Lord Mayor of Delic. Alaron Tucker 6th level Priest/6th level Mage of Mystra. Patron: Mystra herself, Golere, head magus of the Imperial Arcana. (The Imperial Academy). His secrets: Tucker, up until two years ago was a priest of Bane, god of tyrrany and strife. Thanks to Dunsmore, Tyrras and a Helm of Opposite Alignment, Tucker has re-examined his views of the world. For a short while, Tucker was the main proze in a bidding war between numerous gods. Finally, Tucker was promised the position of Magister by Mystra, lady of magic, when it became vacant. Tucker, sick of the bidding, accepted on the spot. Another part of the deal with Mystra was that Tucker could keep his undead and keep creating them. While under Bane, Tucker developed a penchant for the creepy-crawling things, and well, bad habits are hard to break. While he has no undead right now, it's spring-time, and Tucker's fingers are itching. Tyrras 9th level (ahem) mage (Transmuter/Wild Mage/Chronomancer). Patron: Azuth himself, Golere (see entry for Tucker). His secrets: If the bidding was fierce for Tucker when he was masterless, then it would be downright murderous for Tyrras. Tyrras specializes in transmutaion, but has found he;s downright gifted with Wild magic (the only possible times for him to surge are when casting a wild magic spell). But what would make him into a hunted mage is if knowledge spread that he was deeply involved with chronomancy (the magic that deals with time.) Tyrras hides his knowledge of this school of magic at almost all costs, and you know that Dunsmore & Co. have in fact killed to keep this a secret. Joachim Melin: Fighter/Cavalier/Paladin/Cleric 4/9/7/9. Decorated, retired, Green Knight of the Church, now a (ahem) humble priest of God. Patron: Rirke Gossel (see entry for Dunsmore). His secrets: Aside from being a man who can't quite find his vocation, Melin doesn't really have any. Who you are in all of this: Members of the Church: Around this time in your vocation, the church boots you out to make you find your purpose in the world and also so you can see the world. You all began knowing one of the above four, who recruited you into the Justice Rouges: You've been found by Cayneek, who has the heart of a rouge. He's the one that brought you in. Mages: Tyrras has befriended you and brought you in.
