X B U G C H E S S ! ! ! ! ! ! web@athena.mit.edu WARNING: XBUGCHESS is in alpha release please do not pass these sources along. Requests should be sent to me. (I'll of course say yes, but I'd like to keep track of test releases) Thanks. -Chee ABOUT THE PROGRAM XBUGCHESS is actually a combination of xchess, xspeedchess, and xbugchess. They all switch on names, so make sure links to the main xbugchess game. The code is fairly scary, so be warned if you are contemplating modifications. If however, you do brave it and add a feature or two, please mail me a patch so that I can redistribute it. Change the DAEMON_PROG in xbugchess.h specification to point to where the daemon will reside. ABOUT THE GAME I won't go into the game of chess primarily because I pretty much suck at it. Bugchess however, is a 4 player variant of chess. There are two teams of two players. Partners play different colors. When one person takes a piece, that person gives it to your his partner, and that partner places it on their board as their turn (plopping a piece). The only rules for plopping pieces are that it must be placed on an empty square, and the pawn can not be plopped on the first or eighth row. There is no such thing as check, so you may castle whenever move constraints allow. When a pawn is promoted it becomes a queen. When it is taken, it is passed to the partner AS A PAWN. Thus it is more valuable to take a real queen then a promoted one. The rest of running the game is explained in the man page. Have fun! -Chee web@athena.mit.edu
