Editorial Aside -- Guns in RPGs

So, this is my opinion, and just my opinion. In the real world, guns brought about a fundamental change in what I'll call ``the society of combat''. Their effect on modern society, at least as I experience it, is profound.

This is just one of the many excuses I use for my statement that guns do not coexist with `fantasy weapons' in RPG systems, certainly not in RPG systems with more than a low level of rules complexity. While I don't exactly feel like it's impossible to make a system where the two work well, I do think that it's very likely to be very hard, and very likely to be not worth very much time. Very.
