On writing

"A sentence is born into this world neither good nor bad, and that to establish its character is a question of the subtlest possible adjustments...",

(Rachel Cusk, Outline)

Writing is a big part of what we – students, professionals, faculty – do, and effective writing is an important skill.
These very brief notes provide some tips, admittedly biased by the author's field and preferences.

Some other useful sources about writing are:
-
The essay
"How to write Mathematics," by Paul Halmos, is a gem.
 -
"Mathematical Writing", by
Knuth et al., is very thorough. For the impatient, the 27 rules offered in the first 6 pages are very valuable.
 -
"Writing a Math Phase Two Paper," by Kleiman, offers plenty of useful guidance.
 - Last but not least,
the presentation of
"Ten Simple Rules for Mathematical Writing," by
Bertsekas, offers a structured approach.
