Katie Livingston Vale

Katie Livingston Vale is the senior instructional designer in Academic Computing and the Educational Media Creation Center at MIT. She helps faculty incorporate instructional technology into the curriculum. In particular, she often assists departments in using multimedia, hypermedia, and the WWW for educational purposes. She is the Director of the MIT New Media Center, a collection of labs where students, faculty, and staff can create multimedia materials for educational purposes. MIT belongs to the New Media Centers Consortium.

Katie also co-teaches a freshman seminar on Technology-Enabled Education, and is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Education at Boston University, where she completed graduate work. She received her undergraduate degrees in Cognitive Science and Anthropology from Brown University. Research interests include computer-mediated communication, computer-supported cooperative work, distance learning, evaluation of instructional technology, and electronic performance support systems.
