During the of January, or IAP, it is my intent to hold a Castle upon Mitgaard grounds, in the name of Mitgaard to be open unto the entire Barony of Carolingia. This idea of holding a Castle (as opposed to holding Court), is as far as I know a new one unto the Society, and thus I will describe it to all here.
A Castle is a kind of Event (though this one shall not be official) at which instead of holding festival revels, we do our more daily tasks. We shall suppose that we are snowed into a Medieval Castle on a wintry day, and shall work on those projects which are our fancies. I prepose that there be games to while away the hours, and song and dance, and perhaps food, in addition to having place and company for such chores as embroidery, sewing, painting, armor making, calligraphy, leatherworking, translation, et cetera. More details are forthcoming.
By the means of holding a Castle, we will be able to do those kind of work in good company which we otherwise must practice in solitude. It will be a good chance for people to study a craft from a more skilled practitioner or teach it to those who know it not.
At this time, the Castle is tentatively scheduled for Martin Luther King Day, Monday 18 Jan, likely to open at 10am. We hope to have it in Walker Memorial Dining Hall. It will be, free of charge (though food may not). I hope all of you will be penciling this into your schedules now!
I am in need of assistance to prepare this event. I am looking for an administrative assistant to help with the logistics of this. No experience is needed, but he or she must be a currently registered MIT student. The job will include investigating the rules and regulations of room reservations, food service, etc. which in practicum means talking to people in a bunch of offices on campus during normal business hours, and meeting with me (probably in the evening) to work on arrangements. Please email to volunteer.
Also, at the moment, we are unclear on what regulations exist in regards to food. But it occurs to us we *may* be able to sell period food as a fund raiser during this event. That is, both if we are allowed by ARA/CAC, and *if someone want to do it*. If you are interested in *running* a bakesale-ish kind of thing during this event, please contact me. If no one is interested in doing this, and if (unlikely) we are allowed so, I will invite another borough to do this.
At any rate, if there is something you would like to see happen at this Castle, please let me know (e.g. "Calligraphy" "Get some good storytellers" "I want to learn to make shoes" &c.) and I will see what I can do.
In youy service,
Lady Tibicen Blackmane
