Greetings to all from Tibicen, Scheduler, Organizer of Personel, and All-Round Event Mommy for the University of Carolingia!
We have Lecturers. We have performers (though we could use more). We have merchants (though we might be able to squeeze in another). What we *do* need is man power and help of other varieties.
Here is the list of kinds of jobs I know we need done. If you want to volunteer for something not on this list, do it - worst happens is I say no. Probably.
IF YOU ARE WILLING TO DO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP!!!
*************************************************************************
Before the Event - POSTERING:
I need people willing to help me blanket the Greater Boston- Metropolitan Region with posters for University. We've had some serious setbacks, w.r.t. publicity, and we're trying to make up for it a bit by postering. I'd love to have posters appear in laundrymats, ice cream parlors, cornerstores, supermarkets, coffeehouses, etc. Many establishments will happily let you put your poster in the window if you ask nicely. I'm hoping some of you will volunteer to cover regions (your neighborhood, your nearest square, where you work, etc.). I supply all the posters you need, if you give me some warning.

At the Event - WORKING THERE:
People who work at the UoC (as opposed to merely attend) get in free. The catches are:
you gotta show up early, and leave late (10am to ~6pm);
you gotta tell me in advance (showing up early the day of does *NOT* constitute advance warning);
you're expected to work while you're there (though you can request breaks to do or see certain things);
you gotta be in garb.
I need people to:
**Hand the profs. props during lectures
This entails being unobtrusive on stage, and holding up posterboard signs with lecture notes on them, during a lecture that lasts no more than 20 min. Preferably, doing so for several lectures, as necessary.
**Work with children
If you like kids, and are, as Jenna put it, "resigned to being thrown-up-on", whether or not you have prior experience, we need you help. We need people to work an instamatic camera, supervise kids, and teach/run various activities we already have prepared (singing rounds, doing simple dances, heraldry, calligraphy...).
**Work cleanup, including dismatling the castle
The head of clean-up is our own Avelina Percival. Volunteer to me, and I'll pass on your name to her. This job entails such things powertools and pushbrooms.
**Help clear the halls of patrons when we close
Tactful but firm people are needed to usher patrons out of the hall when it closes, frequently reiterating such phrases as "I'm so pleased you enjoyed our Faire, m'lord, but I'm sorry, we're closed now. I pray you will find yourself in good health until the next Session of the University."
**Herald
Loundmouths wanted.
**Aid the merchants in packing up and leaving
We need a horde of people to decend on the merchants after we close the hall, and help them pack and remove their wares, otherwise they'll never get out of there, and we've got about an hour and a half to evacuate and clean the hall!
**Clock Watch
I need people to stay in various performance regions and keep an eye on a watch, and to keep things on schedule: most of the performers will not have watches, and they will be too busy to look at them if they do. Pre-requisite: a watch to watch (borrow one, if necessary)
**Run staff check-in
I need people to keep track of who's shown up, and make sure they get their schedule and know where to go. This involves calmly sitting at a table and handing sheets of paper to a mob of very frantic people. This person(s) gets to show up earlier than any other staff, excepting the autocrat and me.
*Also* other jobs may materialize in the near future...

During the Event - Performers and Speakers to Patrons
I can still use performers with period acts. Talk to me if yo think you want to perform!
Also, we could use a few more people at the information table.

LASTLY (I put this at the bottom for a reason :), a bunch of the people working University are talking about going to the Indian Globe for dinner afterwards. It's pay-your-own-way, but the company'll be grand; the food's Indian (of course) (which means it is often spicy, always pungent and rich), and they not only have vegetarian dishes of great variety and favor, they will bend over backwards to try to accomodate bizzarre dietary restrictions (they fed Tibor). Usually costs ~$10/per person with generous quantities. There will probably be a sign-up sheet in the Green Room, during the Event - look for it there, unless notified otherwise.
Ever yours,
Tibicen
