Well, I hail from Ansteorra where in we have the Multi-day camping 
events more often than Day events. And I would much agree with the 
geographic and social differences affecting this thread. 

I do some actual period pieces, but by in large, most of my work is 
original. and not necessarily in an exact Medieval style. What it most 
comes down to is, "What does my audience want to see and hear?". If I am 
at a Fire at night and the folk around are joking and in a generally, 
high spirit, I am sure not going to sing a dirge. and at a serious camp 
discussing Knightly virtues, I wouldn't sing a 15th century Tavern song. 
Regardless of how you define the word "Filk" knowing how to read an 
audience and your surroundings makes a big difference.
 
BTW most folk in this area consider the Definition of "filk" to be the 
new words, old tune thing. Gets pretty confusing when one changes gears 
to a Con!
