Interesting, and I was not aware of the extent of this.

Perhaps a "more correct" solution would be to require "documentation" in
THIS form for those whose personae or material came from these cultures?

I think that part of my complaint/concern stems from a perception (whether
or not it's true) that many gifted individuals are discouraged from
becoming performers or from continuing to perform, because so many of the
venues seem to require an ability to do detailed research and then write
formal papers -- skills that aren't necessarily associated with performing
skills.

But as has been pointed out elsewhere, this varies widely from place to
place.
