There are a couple of amusing ironies here, for those of us who like such
things.

1. I'm currently studying period music -- including composition -- and
I'm reading Boethius and Guido of Arezzo. I'm also researching period
music for a production of "Twelfth Night." (Any help gratefully
accepted.)

2. I don't sing OR play an instrument -- I'm a storyteller who tells
period stories in the vernacular.

Now, I appear to have offended some people very thoroughly -- my bad, and
I am truly sorry. I did NOT mean to suggest that authenticity or
period-ness are evil or any such thing.

I see a dearth of bards and bardic performance where I live, and I
personally think that an excessive emphasis on competition and
documentation is more than a little responsible -- but then, too much of
ANY good thing is deadly. And I could be wrong about the reasons.

I'll never be a research fanatic, and I'll never be a Laurel. I want to
tell a good, period story, and I hope(d) that this list would be a good
resource. The discussion of documentation seemed excessively technical
for a general list, at least to me.

OTOH, I also recognize that there does need to be a venue where people can
discuss the nitty gritty of period and documentation. Perhaps I was
mistaken, and this list is that place. Again, if so, my bad -- I've never
been completely sure what the purpose of this list is, although I usually
enjoy it.

So, in short, my apologies for any offence.

(dragging my soapbox back down to the basement)
