Subject: Letters to the BoD

Unto all to whom these words come, greetings from Lady Eowyn Eilonwy of
Alewife Brook, Deputy Seneschal of Carolingia.

Good gentles all,
At the meeting of the Great Council of Carolingia this evening, our
seneschal, Master Kobayashi Yutaka, pointed out that since the recent
actions of the Board of Directors of the Society for Creative Anachronism,
Inc. were highly controversial, it is of the greatest importance that all
members of the SCA make their opinions known to the Board and other
appropriate persons. Therefore, after consulting with the Council, Master
Kobayashi decided that the Barony of Carolingia will pay for postage for
letters written by citizens of Carolinigia regarding this matter.
He has asked me to collect and send these letters. To have your letter
included in this effort:
It must be directed to one of the following people:

Their Oriental Majesties Gregor & Christence:
	Scott & Terry Heist
	68 Main St.
	Ashbury, NJ 08802

Their Oriental Highnesses Lucan & Jana:
	Jaye & Jana Brooks
	905 Branch Ave., 2nd floor
	Providence, RI 02904

the Oriental Seneschal, Baron Laurence Thornguard:
	Joel Doner, Esq.
	100 Miller Ave.
	Lindenwold, NJ 08021

the SCA BoD, either en masse:
	SCA Board of Directors
	PO Box 360743
	Milpitas, CA 95036-0743

	or separately:
Tim Moran, 1172 Nottingham, Grosse Point Park, MI 48230
Victoria Tisdale, 1865 Moreno Ave., Ft. Myers, FL 33901
	A. J. Riviezzo, 2323 South Troy #210-D, Aurora, CO 80014
Karen Hatten, 559 Groaning Rock Road, Commerce, GA 30529
Randall Tatro, 164 Everest Rd., Milton, VT 05468
	L. Jane Richards, 2925 South 7th St. West, Missoula, MT 59801-2021

or an SCA Corporate Officer -- we expect that:
	Mr. Tony Provine, Executive Director
	Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.
	PO Box 360743
	Milpitas, CA 95036-0743

and the SCA Seneschal, Duchess Sedalia MacNare:
	E. L. Ellis
	18 Liverpool Court
	Jackson, NJ 08527

are the only Corporate Officers affected by this project, but I am
willing to listen to argument that other Corporate Officers ought to be
covered. (Someone please double-check these addresses against your own
sources and make sure I haven't mistyped.)
It must be produced and signed by you, a Carolingian citizen, and
in an sealed envelope addressed to one of the persons listed above and
return-addressed to yourself. All we will provide is the stamp.
It must be delivered to my hand before I leave the April meeting of
the Great Council. The earlier the better, but that will be my final
deadline. I strongly encourage that letters for Their Majesties reach
me by next Monday, Feb. 14, so that I may transmit them with some hope
of their reaching Their Majesties before They set out for the Estrella
War and the planned Known World Royalty meeting there. (We regret the
brevity of the period between this announcement and the Estrella War,
but that's the way the time worked.) However, letters to Their
Majesties after that point -- until the deadline -- will also be
    useful.

We encourage people to write letters that:
are polite (invective will only get in the way of your serious
statements). Please note that the BoD has stated that it prefers to be
styled "the Board of Directors" or simply "the Board".
state your opinions of the BoD's decisions.
if you disagree with their new policies, give any suggestions you
may have for alternate solutions to the problems they were trying to
    address.
are individual -- if the BoD thinks a form letter is being used,
they may simply pile all apparent copies of it together and treat them
as a single item, but if they get separate, different letters on an
issue, they must deal with each one individually.
state whether you are a paid member of the SCA Inc., how long you
have been involved in the SCA (paid or otherwise), what activities you
have been involved in and responsibilities you have undertaken (for
instance, what offices you have held), and whether the new policies
will (if left in place) lead to a change in your involvement in the
    SCA.

You should keep a copy of any letter you send for your own records.
His Majesty Gregor has requested that people who write to the BoD
concerning this matter send him copies of their letters, to better his
understanding of the response of the folk of the East to this situation.
Letters to the BoD sent to the Corporate Office will be copied and
distributed to all BoD members by the Corporate Secretary, so one letter to
the BoD will work, but if you prefer you can also (or instead) send letters
to any or all of the individual members.

I expect to be available to accept letters according to the following
schedule:
Great Council meetings, first Mondays of March and April, 6-120,
    7pm-9 or so.
Vocal Jongleurs' Practice, non-Council Mondays through March,
4-402, 8:30-10pm. The Instrumental Jongleurs meet in the same room
7-8:30, and letters can probably be left with them to give to me if you
    can't wait until 8:30.
The BoD response meetings on Feb. 9, MIT Bldg. 1, 2nd floor,
various rooms, starting at 7:30. I will probably not stay in any one
meeting or very late, but I will at least drop by each meeting sometime
    after the scheduled start.
The BoD reponse meeting on Feb. 24, 10-250, starting at 7pm.
the beginning of Dance Practice, Wednesdays through March, 16-310,
    7:30. I will drop by between 7:30 and 8.
the Pikestaff mailing party at Daniel, Roselyne, and Juliana's,
    Feb. 17, 7pm (?)

or you may call me at reasonable hours at 641-2014 to attempt to arrange
something else. Please do -not- try to deliver letters other than by the
above schedule without making arrangements with me first (don't assume that
dropping them in my house's mailbox will just magically work). Various
people are already considering arranging letter-writing parties, and I will
do my best to coordinate with them, either to drop by the meetings or to
pick up the letters so produced from someone afterwards. You are welcome
to give your letters to people you trust for delivery to me, but I can
accept no responsibility if those messengers fail of your trust and don't
give me your letters. I retain the right to refuse letters which don't
comply with the regulations above (yes, including lack of return address).

I urgently request that all who read these words pass this message
along to their friends who do not have net access. This issue may be the
most important to affect the SCA since its founding. Making your opinion
known to the Corporation will be vital to the future form of the SCA.
Please, please write.

Eowyn, Deputy Seneschal
