Greetings to all from Tibicen!

Imagine being snowed in...in a Castle....

Because it is early in the year, there is plenty of wood to keep us
warm, and there is still food in the castle stores.

Outside the snow drifts silently down. Inside, the wait for Spring
commences. Yule has past, and there is time yet before the next great
Revel. But that's alright. Now is a perfect time to get done all
those tasks you never got around to during the preparation for the
long winter...

that card weaving you never finished
those scrolls that had to wait
that embroidery you always wanted to do
armor repairs that you just barely managed to get through the War
	season without making
doing something with that fabric you had bought for Twelfth Night...4
	years ago
practicing that juggling manoeuver that eluded you
finding out just who Baron John of Ioway was, anyway
practicing how to cast fortunes with runes
making a new bow string
playing 18 games of Tablero end to end
making new shoes
reading the Decameron....

So many things to do. But snowed into a castle, there are no
deadlines....Just the timeless, endless fall of snow....

**********************************************************************

I have been asked to run another Castle at Mitgaard (much to my
surprize). The Castle is a day of doing Scadian arts and crafts and
whatever quiet activities please you in the company of other Mitgaardi
and Carolingians (and whomever else shows up), and IS HELD ON MARTIN
LUTHER KING DAY, MONDAY, JANUARY 17th (during IAP!).

So my question to you is: do you wanna? This really doesn't work if
no one shows up. You have your IAP guides, and should now have some
clue as to where you'll be then. Note that most regular classes do
*NOT* meet on MLK Day (strategic choice, don't you think? ;)

IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS, send me email NOW saying so; also in your
email, let me know what you want to do there.

This is a good opportunity to get hands on instruction in some craft
you wanted to take up, so if you tell me "I'd like to learn to make
chain mail", I'll go try to make sure that there's a chainmail maker
with loaner equipment there. Likewise, as I get people who volunteer
to teach things, I'll let you know - but don't wait for them to
volunteer, ask up. Likewise, if you say "I would like to learn/play
period forms of chess" I'll be sure to let the local games
afficianados know, so they'll bring their boards.

If you don't know what you want to do, or if you just want to flake
out doing stuff, there will be stuff there to keep your hands busy and
you amused - but let me know, so I know what to provide.

FOOD IS AN UNRESOLVED ISSUE:
I see two options (1) potluck (2) a meal of cold roast chicken,
apples, bread and honey butter (or something comparitively simple).
In case one everyone would be responsible for bringing food to eat
food. In the second, it would probably cost ~$3/person. Please vote
on which you'd prefer.

FINALLY:
Does all this sound like fun? Wanna help run it? I've *done* this,
and it's easy. I'm looking for an inexperienced co-autocrat; I'd
like to teach someone the ropes of holding an event at MIT, and
organizing in the Barony. If you'd like to do this (and are willing
to commit to do it), get back to me NOW. We have a few things that
have to be done this weekend, and attending Council Monday night is
pretty important (then I'll probably leave you alone till after
Finals).

I will gladly step down for anyone who thinks it might be fun to do it
by themselves (and will happily supply support as requested). Just
let me know *now*.

Yours in service,
Tibicen Blackmane
