Fondest Greeting to You all,

First, the directions given for Maslenitsa in _The Carolingian
Miniscule_ are for the *old* site.  The directions below and in the
February issue of _Pikestaff_ are correct.

Second, on-board space is still available - and what a feast it's
going to be!  The event announcement now includes the menu, and if
you're not hungry before you read it, you will be afterward...


                           Maslenitsa!  

O mighty boyar!  O magnificent Tsarina! Come and celebrate with the
humble Russian folk of the Barony Carolingia on Saturday, March 12,
1994 as we prepare for the long weeks of Lent.  The time has come
again to gorge ourselves on the fine foods, plenti- ful pastries, and
delicious drinks -- and what sumptuous foods they must be, if the
memory of them is going to last for 40 days and 40 nights.

The tables will groan under the weight of the many rare foods!  An
optional day board will delight your tastebuds with hearty peasant
fare! The sound of clashing swords will fill the air!  Feasting and
revelry is the order of the day -- with games and competitions for
folk of all kinds.

The site is the Kennedy Middle School (655 Lexington St.) in Waltham.
A snow-covered courtyard awaits the fighters in our Ox-Hide
tournament, and a warm feast hall will house the sumptuous day-board,
and the blini-eating competition!

On-board space is limited, so reserve soon!  Reservations are $3.50
for off and out-board, and $9.50 for on-board.  Please add an
additional $2.50 for the optional day board.  Please make checks
payable to "SCA - Barony of Carolingia" and send your reservations to
Lady Caitlin Davies (Jane Waks, 82 Montclair Avenue, Waltham, MA
02154-3067).  On-board space is limited, so reserve soon!  Please
include a SASE with your reservation, so that we may mail you
confirmation and directions.

supposed to eat all this food?".

Limited merchant space is available.  Unfortunately, the czar demands
a $5.00 merchanting fee per merchant.  Contact his agent, the
autocrat, for more information. All other questions should be

Directions:

From the South, North, or East

Take Route 128 (Interstate 95) to exit 28 A, Trapelo Rd (Northbound on
128, turn right off exit.  Southbound, turn left off exit).  Go east,
toward Belmont, on Trapelo Road, to the second real traffic light, not
counting the blinker.  Turn right onto Lexington St.  Pass through two
sets of lights, and a set of blinking lights.  At the second set of
blinking lights, turn left into the High School/Jr High School
grounds.  The Junior High is the first building you come to.

From Boston and Cambridge:

Take Route 2 West to the Waltham St./Waltham exit.  Bear right off the
exit until you have doubled under Route 2.  You are now on Lexington
St.  Take Lexington through four sets of lights, and one set of
blinking lights, passing the Chadwick's Ice Cream, Star Market, and
Burger King.  Then, at the second set of blinking lights, turn left
into the High School/Junior High School grounds.  The Junior High is
the first building you come to.
