Still working on the (in)famous zip code project; some progress since 
last
month but no milestones yet.

Golden Gryphon Pursuivant
I have a herald for the Feb. event.  The next heraldic commenting session 
will
be at Caitlin's Jan. 25, 7pm, rides available from Alewife Station if you
arrange them with me ahead of time, etc.

Knight Marshall

Fighting practice starts up again Wed. evening.

Thanks again to Torogene for typing in all the stuff not sent online.

Avelina isn't here so I am doing a semi-competent imitation of her.  It's 
been
a while and I'm out of practice, so I may slow down Kobayashi's announced
intention to get out of here quickly.

Magister
Many people seem to be giving themselves the SCA as a Christmas present; 
we had lots of calls in the week around Christmas.  Roselyne and I 
haven't held a
session to repair the loaner garb yet, but at least some of it will be
available for work at the MITGaard Castle.

Dancemaster & Dancemistress

They called me today; they're much better but still too sick to travel in 
for
this meeting.  Daniel says Harald has patched the problem with the sound 
system but expects it to die in the foreseeable future, so we should 
start thinking about another Council debate on financing a replacement.


Steward Hospitaller

Everything but a bit of paperwork is done to effect the transfer of this 
office from Li Kung Lo to Arianwen ferch Gawaine.

Marshall of Fence
As I reported at the last meeting, the Registry never received the first 
mass
mailing of the new waiver forms.  I sent the second copies return receipt
requested, and got a nasty complaint from them on my answering machine 
about
how much trouble this was for them and how it disrupted their routine.  I 
have
here two copies of every form sent in; take yours, amke copies, and have 
a copy ready to hand in at every event you attend, because the Registry 
is far behind in turning around the new cards.

Other then that, fencing is fine; come to practice.

Tibor of Rock Valley
I've been having to call the Registry myself about delays in getting the
insurance forms dealt with for my event.  (Today?) the Registrar said 
that they had been snowed under with thousands of forms -- they hadn't 
expected this much response -- and they had now processed all the ones 
they'd get out for January. If you have comments about this situation, 
the BoD fax number is 408-263-0641.

Prospective Seneschal for Aschehyrst
We're not listed in Jan. Pikestaff, and don't know whether we'll be in 
Feb.
(Emilia: no, you won't) -- ah, we won't be in the Feb. issue either, so 
our
Pro-Am archery team will arrange to deal with the Kingdom Seneschal.  But 
in
the mean time, we've held our first official organizational meeting, at 
which
we considered the arms we're submitting (our name has already passed).  
We're
thinking about holding our first event, probably sometime in Sept.  Our 
next
meeting is Jan. 21, 7:30 at Toshi and Caitlin's.

Kobayashi Yutaka
Don't blame Larry, it's not really his fault.  He's been trying to find 
someone to hand his job off to, and hasn't yet managed that.

Jongleurs' Guildmistress
Last month we sang in the T.  We made about as much as we did last year, 
with
only about half as many people, so this year we could all get whipped 
cream on
our hot chocolate.  Jongleurs continue to meet Mon. evenings except 
Council
nights, 7-8:30 for instrumentalists, 8:30-10 for vocalists, in MIT 4-402, 
and
newcomers are always welcome.  The instrumentalists will play for dance
practice this Wed. as usual.  Next performance will be at the Feb. event.
Autocrats should remember to talk to me or Gwendolyn well in advance if 
you
want us to sing or play; a week beforehand is not well in advance.

Brewer's Guild
Morgaine ferch Cadwr
Next 2 meetings will be practicums.  Jan. 30, 2pm at Brendan's, to make 
things
to help him start his cellar in his new home.  Feb. 26 at my house -- how 
to
brew mead; we hope to have kits available for the beginning brewer.  Call
Aquel for more details.

Mistress of the Baron's Own Mummers
The Knight of the Burning Pestle proceeds.  No performance at the Feb. 
event, I couldn't find a director.  Aleksandr has an idea for his event.

Aleksandr Yevsha
Turns out my site has a nice auditorium, which I'd like to keep fairly 
busy
with entertainment.  One item in particular I'd like to arrange for is a 
short
Russian religious play; I have the play but need a director and actors -- 
talk
to me if interested.

Mograine ferch Cadwr
The commedia troupe is preparing for our performance at the Birka event.  
After that would be an -excellent- time for newcomers to join us -- 
practices are Tues. 7:30 in MIT 4-402.

Needleworkers' Guildmistress
Next meeting will be Wed. Jan. 19 at 7:30 at my house; we will work on
smocking.  Baroness Margary of Toddington will be giving an informal 
seminar on spinning at Tibor's event.  Sometime in late Feb. or early 
Mar. we will have a meeting at MIT, subject: making hoods that fit.

Pike Company co-Captains
We had another meeting, last month at Alexander of Kiev's, where we
experimented with making armor from barrel plastic.  There will be a 
meeting
sometime late this month; date to be announced online, and published in 
the
minuscule if we decide it before the print deadline.

Rapier Company Captain
I expect this to be the last report I make in this capacity, as I plan to
retire at Tibor's event.  We are now in a commenting period about the two
candidates to succeed me, Morgaine and Corwin, but I have received only 1
letter.  If Patri and I don't get any other comments, that single opinion 
will
loom large in our decision.  Comments should be sent online to me, by any 
other
methods to Patri.

Otherwise, we are fine, practice is Sun. afternoons, come fence.

First Speaker of the Guild of Storytellers
The meeting this month will be unusually on Fri. the 14th, to avoid 
conflict
with the Birka event -- my house, 7:30.

Master of Misrule of the Fools' Guild
We have noticed two traditional problems which we are attempting to work 
on.
One is the unicorn stampede -- no progress there.  The other is the 
mastodon
blight.  For this, we have noticed that Kobayashi is a Companion of the 
Order
of Chivalry but isn't a knight, so he must be a mastodon.  Therefore the
mastodon blight is not complete, and we are woking on methods to discover
others; in the mean time, we will do whatever we can to prevent him from 
being
harmed, which may be difficult, as he shows a predeliction for getting 
hit over
the head with sticks, but we'll be in there to protect him....

Oh.  Oops.  Sorry about that.  I guess we'll have to continue looking for
mastodons.

MITGaard
We are holding a Castle on Martin Luther King Day, Mon. Jan. 17, from 
around
noon to 5.  Slightly different site from last year: MIT 14E-302, which is 
above the MIT Music Library.  Bring handcrafts and do them, chat with 
friends, hear old stories, etc.  Mostly small, nice rooms, so there won't 
really be
facilities for big, messy processes, but talk to me if you want to do 
something like that and maybe we can work something out.  We're not 
making any provisions for food -- technically food isn't allowed in the 
rooms -- but there's an adjoining kitchen, so if you want to bring or 
make something, talk to me.

Li Kung Lo
For what it's worth, I don't know why, but over the past few years, 
random
injuries at events have dropped about 90%.  Maybe our curse of klutziness 
has
now been lifted.

Principal Companion of the Daystars
Mea culpa.  We should have had a meeting last fall.  Real Soon Now I will 
deal
with the polling from last spring's meeting and arrange another meeting.

Principal Companion of the Moons

As usual, she can't be here.

Principal Companion of Perseus
We haven't received any recommendations recently.

Moon Viewing Event

The report has been turned in; the autocrat couldn't get here today.
Essentially, the event lost about $100.

Emilia Mazzo de Novella, site autocrat
Much of that wasn't Fujimoto's fault; we had bad problems with the 
custodian.
He basically demanded a $2/hour raise at the event, as well as coming up 
with
other hassles.  (Some surprise expressed by various in the audience.)  I 
think
his problem is that he's good at dealing with particular people, rather 
than
varying members of an organization.  He got used to Danulf after Danulf 
had run a couple of the Challenge events there, and now he still calls 
Danulf about other events the barony runs there.

Winter Frolic autocrat
We have about 30 paid reservations.  There are only 100 seats for dinner, 
as
the kitchen is small; I won't accept a single reservation over 100, so 
reserve
early.

We've had problems with the Registry.  Their insurance agent filled out 
our
site paperwork wrong, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts caught that, so 
I've
had to send it back to them to be done right, they've sent it on to him, 
and
he's taking his time.  This will be dealt with in time for the event.

Event activities: archery, ransom tourney for fighters, some kind of 
fencing
tourney, a spinning and fiber arts workshop, a jongleurs' guild 
performance,
storytelling, baronial court, an auction to fund fencing activities....  
anyone have any other suggestions?

Dhughall is chief cook and is working out the menu now.  If you have 
particular food suggestions or restrictions, talk to us.

Maslenitsa autocrat
I've been dealing with interesting paperwork too -- apparently you can't
reserve just part of a City of Boston school, you have to take the whole 
thing. And the gym and auditorium and kitchen each require separate 
paperwork and have separate staff who have to be there -- I am trying to 
arrange to combine some of them.

Caitlin is reservations clerk, Arianwen is chief cook, onboard limit is 
120
people.  There will be fighting but not fencing -- if you want to fence, 
go to
the fencing event in Mountain Freehold that day.  There will be a play if 
I can find a director and actors.  Fees are $3.50 for just site or $9.50 
for onboard, plus $2.50 for dayboard if you want it.  Feast will be 
fairly
vegetarian-friendly -- lots of fish and dairy, since this is nominally a 
fast
day.

St. George's Day autocrat
New site: Kennedy Middle School in Waltham, just down the hill from 
Justin and
Caitlin's house -- many thanks to Tibor for helping arrange this.  There 
will
be a tourney after the fashion of the Company of St.  Michael -- I'm
corresponding with them about details, but it will involve lots of 
heraldic
display -- followed by a tourney with the usual SCA melee rules.  Caitlin 
is
cooking the feast.  That will be followed by the Knight of the Burning 
Pestle
performance.  Date is Apr. 23, 11am-10pm, so it looks like we begin 
clean-up
directly after the play.  Guendalina is reservations clerk, fees are $6
offboard or $11 onboard, get me an SASE for the tournament rules.

Mayday

Two councils ago the folks from Fenmere asked me to produce an event in a 
box
for them the way I've done for the past few years.  I told them to 
reserve the
rooms and get back to me; I hear that they've reserved the rooms, but 
they
haven't yet gotten back to me.

Ladies' Champion Tourney co-autocrat

Marian is still site hunting.  Our first choice is MIT Great Court, 
second
choice would be somewhere along the Charles.  No this isn't intended as a
public event; those are merely scenic locations.  The main point of the 
event
is to get the ladies to watch the fighting so they can help choose their
champion.  Tentative date is June 18.

Autocrat's Table coordinator
The next event doesn't really need AT guidance, and I'm too busy 
organizing it
to hold a meeting in Jan., so the next meeting will be sometime in Feb. 
--
maybe I'll return to the origin of this gathering and have a brunch 
meeting.

The Minister of Rattan Lists, the Historian & Librarian, and delegates 
from the boroughs of Duncharloch and SoutheBank and from Houses Windsmeet 
and Silverwing all indicated their existence.

Harald Longfellow:
I fixed the Baronial sound system.  It has taken more abuse than I 
expected.   I have suggested to Daniel that he start thinking about the 
possibility of replacing the sound system in the next six months or so.

Emilia Mazzo de Novella:
- The Miniscule will set a side a space for Pikestaff information so it 
is always findable.

- The first Pikestaff lick and stamp party will be on Tuesday, January 18 
at Harald Longfellow's home.  Call me for directions.

- We are not hosting a Birkka party this year.  Don't come over after the 
event expecting one.

Siubhan nic Cruimein:
- Radegund and I are still looking for more help copy editing the 
Pikestaff.  If we get enough people, each person will only need to help 
out twice a year.

- Volunteer to help with gate at Maslenitsa.

Franz Joder von Joderhuebel:
The Carolingian Pleid will meet at my place on Friday, February 4.  A 
Pleid is a group of approximately seven poets.  The subject is sonnets.  
If you have a cat allergy and want to come let me know and we can 
probably meet in my neighbor's space.  Attendance has been anemic.  If 
you can't come on the 4th but are still interested in similar meetings, 
let me know.  If interest doesn't pick up, this may be the last one.

Genevieve de Chanteloup:
Butterick has a cloak pattern which is good for SCA wear.

Dante de Felice:
- I have Libers for sale.  Buy one.

- The next Cooks' Guild meeting is on Sunday, January 23 at my house.  
The topics are carving lessons and sauces.

Caitlin Davies:
- I'm taking reservations for Maslenitsa.

- If you want to volunteer to help in the kitchen for the Feast of St. 
George event.  Talk to me.

Aleksandr Yevsha:
Middle Eastern dance practice will resume on Thursday, January 20 in MIT 
room 16-310 and continue every other week after that.  Contact Yelizaveta 
Medvedeva for more information.

Harald Longfellow:
Woodworkers are meeting the first Sunday of every month from noon to 5 pm 
at the Buttery.  The next meeting is February 6.

Tibor of Rock Valley:
- Academy of the Rapier is meeting on Thursday, January 20 at Baron 
Patri's.  This meeting will be the best time in the next several months 
for new people to begin showing up.
- Patri and Barbara now have a second little girl, Julia.

Eowyn Eilonwy of Alewife Brook:
Ajax has moved to Connecticut.  I have his address if you need it.  I 
will also give it to the Liber editor.

Treasurer:
We have $2841 in uncommitted funds.

Christian von Jauregk:  
The boat is in my basement.  If you need it, talk to me so we can arrange 
a time when I can get access to that storage area.

Danulf Donaldson:
There will be fencing at Birkka.  I'm the marshal.  In March, there is a 
Northern Region fencing tournament which will include those of use from 
the traditional central region.  There are probably rides available to 
these events.  Local fencers should try and get out to these events.

Caitlin Davies:
Who has the tapestries? [The answer is Colin Ursell, the Steward.]

Justin du Coeur:  There will be a meeting about the proposed Northern 
Region Principality at the Northern Region fencing event.

Danulf Donaldson:
There will be fencing at Twelfth Night.  This information isn't in any of 
the event announcements.

Li Kung Lo:
- The East game in first in the IKAC Open Division.  The East lost to the 
Middle in the crossbow and traditional longbow categories.  There were no 
Eastern crossbow scores.
- There will be seven Grand Master Bowman presentations at Birkka and 
four or so more at Twelfth night.

Tibicen Blackmane:
- My phone number in the new Liber is correct.  Please use it.  The 
person at the old number is tired of getting my calls.
- There is a 16th century dance class at MIT this week.  I've talked to 
the instructor.  The class is geared toward new people.  He does things 
slightly differently from the way we do.  Talk to me for more 
information.

Harold Longfellow:
- There is a baroque dance class at the end of January.  Call me for 
details.

- The Dance Flurry in Albany, a mostly folk dance gathering, includes a 
couple of hours of English and French renaissance dance.  Call me for 
details.

Torogene Kazakh:
I am running the con suite at Arisia.  If you'd like to help out, talk to 
me.

Christian von Jauregk:
